Sinful Dinner at Anchor Point Hong Kong Cafe

[Thursday, 20 January, 2011]

I made some amendment for the tuition agency website’s design. Then, I continued with SEO until 5am.

Mike woke me up after 10am to tell me that he had forgotten to bring his office keys along. I rushed down to the office at 11am and we dined at the canteen. We had the Chinese mixed vegetable rice for the second time. However, we were the first customer this time. The food was much more expensive than other places.

I continued with SEO and we also exchanged ideas on it. I started working on the new article Private Tutor Singapore when Mike suggested going to IKEA for early dinner. We called for a cab and alighted at Anchor Point before crossing over to IKEA. Mike changed his mind after seeing the menu and we went back to Anchor Point and had a feast at the Hong Kong café. Mike ordered extra side dish and I felt sinned because I could hardly finish my plate of chicken chop.

We went back to IKEA to walk around. Mike bought his new lighting for his house before we started eating the famous IKEA ice-cream. The DJs from FM 97.2 were there to conduct a game and they tried to find topics using Mike’s lighting. After a while, we decided to take bus back to office. The taste of ice-cream was bad for I was having a stomachache. Eventually, we flagged for a cab.

After releasing my waste, I started working till after 11pm. We walked back to Tanjong Pagar while Mike went to Amara hotel’s taxi stand to get a cab home.

Johor Bahru for Kaiwei’s Birthday

[Saturday, 11 December, 2010]

I was busy typing emails and later on, I tried to finish the article Home Tuition in Singapore before going to bed at 5am. Lucky woke me up near 11am as he sniffed my ear to cause irritation with the loud and air pressure.

I took MRT with my elder brother and mum and met up my elder brother’s girlfriend at Kranji station. Then, we took bus 170 over to Woodlands Checkpoint and then to Johor Bahru. The queue at Woodlands CheckPoint’s bus interchange was totally screwed up. Bastards had started cutting queue and forming a third queue in between the actual two ones. It was beyond control and none of the officials had attempted to clear the mess.

My mum went for haircut, treatment and dyeing of hair at the old shopping centre next to City Square. I had chicken rice with the couple while waiting. We went back to check on my mum and realised the salon allowed smoking inside and I was angered by such illegal act. We went shopping for a while before going back to find my mum again. The couple left to meet up with my younger brother and his gangs at the MacDonald’s while I stayed behind to wait. After my mum was done with her hair, she told me us she had purchased a bottle of lotion from the hairdresser. I was disgusted that she was cheated again as my elder brother told us that the hairdresser earned very high commission for such sales, which meant that we could get the lotion at much cheaper price elsewhere.

We went for lunch at the Hong Kong café because it was my younger brother’s birthday and we could get a big container of tea for free. We did not order a lot of food. After lunch, we separated into two groups. My younger brother stayed with his friends. It was a very boring afternoon for me. Sometimes I had to wait outside the crowded shops that my mum shopped in. I was sleepy and had many better things to do and it was a really big torment for me.

The two groups of us met up at 6pm and hopped on to the cabs that we had booked before we proceeded to a faraway seafood restaurant called “TKK” or “Ti Kong Kia” or “Son of Heaven”. It was by the side of the sea, facing Sembawang. Other than the good scenery, the service was excellence. It was too bad that I was not a seafood fanatic.

We went back to City Square after that and did a little shopping. Luckily, this time round, my mum was quick and we joined up with the rest soon. When we were crossing over the custom, we realised the design for arrival and departure were symmetrical after some confusion. We were waiting for CW2 bus to go straight to Bugis and my younger brother saw the Resort World bus. We left the queue and boarded our new discovery at the price of ringgit five bucks each. The bus left us at Keppel Road before it went towards Sentosa.

After reaching home, we saw that Lucky had messed up the entire place. My elder brother arrived almost at the same time and he was stunned to see that Lucky had destroyed his girlfriend’s new slippers.

I spent some time replying Wanling and Gilbert through Facebook about the upcoming outing.

New but Not Really New Laptop

I went to the IT fair at Expo yesterday with my younger brother, elder brother and his girlfriend. My stomach was bloated after the lunch at the Tanjong Pagar hawker centre. I regretted not being more determined to resume the visit to the Chinese physician.

There were many sweet salesgirls over there, which was quite distracting.

We were looking around at all brands such as Fujitsu, Acer, HP, Dell, Sony, and Toshiba… etc. In the end, my younger brother was captivated by a HP tablet laptop and a light weighted Acer normal laptop. He chose the latter since my elder brother advised we should just focus on getting whatever we wanted instead of being tempted by other interesting features. We chose the Acer one.

I wanted to get a simple laptop since I had to return the current one to my office after end of the year. My younger brother was using a powerful system he bought from NUS and he offered to exchange it with me for a lower-end laptop since he would only need one for his science report and surfing net.

I wanted to get the Acer laptop from a net friend who I realized was working there but somehow she was too busy to reply me the night before. I could not recognize her in the big exhibition hall and thus I gave up the idea because I would not want to go all the way there again.

After that, we walked around a sportswear warehouse sale where I saw a nice black Deuter back pack, compact enough to hold a laptop. It cost $79 and I gave it up, feeling the ache.

The MRT was crowded with people as well. We chose to go to the opposite direction instead, to the airport. My elder brother and his girlfriend decided on the Xin Wang Hong Kong Café and we had a long queue outside.

The waitress was cute and impressive on her memory. She had memorized the entire menu and thus, once we gave her the number of the food item, she could double confirm with us using the names. I ordered a plate of luncheon meat noodle for my throat was not feeling well.

IKEA and Anchor Point with Younger Brother and Mum

Yesterday was Hari Raya Haji and therefore was a holiday, which means I had less one day of income.

It was a very slack day for me and thus there was not much work produced. At least I got to enjoy myself playing game alone.

At night, I went to IKEA with my mum and younger brother. The restaurant was packed and thus we took a round of walking around first before moving over to Anchor Point, where we settled at the Xin Wang Hong Kong café. It was a good dinner, sharing dishes like papaya milk soup, pork curry and lychee with meat. It cost me around $30.

After that, we walked around IKEA again at the level one and followed by level two again.

Boring Volleyball

Yesterday was boring.

I had to package my lunch back to the staff room since my kiakis were all busy.

Kachua arrived with my dinner in the evening, Long John Silver’s golden deal one, and I did not play in the first two games. Mingfa brought his Clementi Woods Secondary students down and we were very impressed with their attitudes. I did not get to play with the Filipinos until the last game, and could no longer hold any enthusiasm.

We wanted to go to East Coast Park’s Si Nai Hong Kong café for dinner but it was already closing by the time we reached and thus, we switched to the branch at Tanjong Katong. I had nothing except for a cup of ice blended mango drinks.

We Golfed, We Ate and We Chatted

The morning did not start off well somehow. I woke up very early but dragged before going out to meet Irwin and Eugene for golf at Queenstown MRT. Being afraid of getting gastric pain and that I knew I should have taken more light meals, I grabbed a sandwich at the seven-eleven store.

It was a better morning than other times since there was a young sweet girl at the other end of the driving range. Since the machine over our side was spoilt, we had to go over there.

Eugene impressed me with his calmness and consistency in his first attempt of golfing. Irwin spotted my mistake of swinging the golf club and thus I realised the last two times of golfing were waste of time.

We shared around eight hundred of balls and due to the correct swinging angle, I was not as tired as the past. We took bus 51 to Bugis Junction after that and dined at Wang Kok Hong Kong Café. I had a set meal. In the end we were quite full but managed to finish everything.

We made a big turn to TCC and camped there for very long. The cute waitress, Charlene, quite impressed me. The three of us had great chats and killed the stress of the mountain-full work waiting for me.

We left at around five PM. Irwin went back to play golf and I decided that I should not spend too much time outside especially when my fingers were already equipped with many blisters.

I started dozing off and when my younger brother returned home, we went to look for my mum to do some shopping at the NTUC. At first, I was expecting my mum to get the stuffs and leave, but they took their own time leisurely when my brain was malfunctioning. The one hour of shopping was billed at almost a hundred dollar.

Saturday Lecture, Volleyball, Mingli’s Birthday and Hong Kong Cafe

I was planning to sleep early on Saturday morning but a friend messaged me in MSN and thus, slowed down my blogging speed. I woke up after seven AM for the morning lesson and it was hell sickening having to go back school on Saturday. It did not seem like a weekend at all.

I was lucky enough to catch a bus 75 soon after reaching the bus-stop. At the first sight after boarding the new bus, I was quite stunned to see someone who looked like her.

On the way then I remembered I had forgotten to collect my student card the day before. The worst thing was that I had even forgotten the new room to collect it the next week. I went back to the original photo taking room and I was right that they did place a piece of paper at the door to highlight the place.

I met Professor Willy Susilo on the way to the restroom and I confirmed that he remembered my face; hopefully it was not due to me sitting at the front and nodding during his lecture.

They did not provide us a proper room for lecture. We were placed inside an examination room, which stretched far to the back, and thus, not everyone could really see the screen and whiteboard clearly. This was not what we deserved after paying such high school fee.

Yuanle was late and he joined me at my back’s table. The lecture was full of theories to remember and thus I was trying very hard to keep myself awake. Even though I succeeded like usual, the words did not really get into my brain.

We went to the more high class canteen during the break but the queue was long and thus we switched over to the “normal” one opposite. I met Reuben Tham and then I saw Mr Peh walk past outside.

Back to lecture, I almost wanted to kill myself for the torment to keep my eyes open. The daily less than six hours of sleep was breaking my mental system. When Professor Willy talked about the assignment and examination at the end of the lecture, I was very worried because I was never an outspoken person to debate during the presentation.

We were released very early and I left quickly to get some rest before going for volleyball. Unfortunately, I did not sleep for long and I could not get back to nap again somehow. The duck rice my mum bought was quite filling and that my stomach stitch regained during the journey back to workplace.

Mr Peh advised me of my bachelor degree course, as it was too short to be recognized in government sectors and that graduating at Australia would be a much better choice. The words kept my mind occupied throughout the night.

I missed the first game since we had seven people, excluding Mingfa’s students. I did not get many chances to spike when I got in and I wasted my rare opportunities each time. As I joined in the other games, I started to get back some feeling but I was already too tired on my legs to do much things. I made many attempts of good spiking and felt quite satisfied in the end.

Halfway through the games, Weitat and Mingfa fetched Mingli’s cake over, switched off the light and we started singing her a birthday song.

After the uncles had left, we stayed on to play two on two and I caused Andy to lose two games together with me since I had just trimmed my finger nails, which caused pains when I tried setting the ball. The softness on my legs resulted that I could not dig well without the proper foundation on the ground.

Wilson left to fetch Ruoci while Kok Chiang sent Oliver home and buying a packet of rice for the security guard. The rest of us camped at the car lobby and took off soon upon Kok Chiang came back. We went to Hong Kong café at Cineleisure. We were planning to park the car at the free parking car park opposite Cineleisure but the bird shits scared us away. Jingkun had a frustrated ride with moronic taxi drivers and we were afraid that he might do dangerous things. Mingfa bought new slippers at NewUrbanMale shop first since he lost his entire shoes bag before going for volleyball earlier on.

Weitat and Mingli shared a bowl of curry pork while Mingfa had his share with me. The usual milk tea kept us waiting for long and then we shared a mango sunrise, which was too filling for the five of us.

While we were leaving, we met Kaelyn aka Pauline. I had not seen her for long and we used to chat online last time before we got busy. The excitement lighted me up and I started doing the normal teasing, which kept the rest wondering.

I reached home at nearly three PM.

Volleyball after so Long

A long day began early in the morning. I struggled to leave my house as usual not long after the sun rose.

Once again I gave myself extra work instead of concentrating or resting inside the office. Weitat was kind enough to accompany me for a quick brunch.

The late afternoon was hours of torturing period but eventually working with the kind souls made me feel quite honourable.

Starvation was my foe for the evening. Faris donated some chocolates to me but my poor health could only allow me to have one piece to win favour from the rumbling stomach. Famine drove me down to the canteen for in search of food and luckily, I managed to get a cup noodle from the beloved drinks stall auntie.

Just as I was trying to take a break and catch up with the online news after neglecting them for a couple of days, Weitat announced that both Mingfa and Mingli were already waiting for us inside the hall.

A quick setup of the net permitted Weitat and I to get changed up. We began playing two versus two, and this time I teamed up with Mingfa to drag his score down.

After the weeks of secluded life, away from the court, I was totally rusted that I could not even serve the ball, let alone spiking. The hit on the top joint of my right thumb when I was trying to spike the ball added to the phobia of touching the ball. I could feel the blue-black and it was a terrible pain to start off with the game. My right index finger was still a victim to the sprain months ago.

We had quite good games but however, I felt weird to have outsiders in the same team. My backache caused me to pause at the later hour – it was not due to volleyball but bad sitting posture probably.

My entire mind was filled with complications throughout the night.

Jingkun drove us to East Coast Park’s C Nai Hong Kong Café. We had great jokes inside the car, and the seat belts’ joke simply lasted us for long. However, I started to get kicked up with famine once again and my entire body was so weak that I stopped talking. In my collapsing eyelids, I could feel only numbness in my mind but could not doze off.

Small cup of Yuan-Yang (same size as the Si Wa Nai Cha)

Wilson and Ruoci joined us soon. I had the usual dish but ordered a cup of “Yuan Yang” (coffee with tea) instead. I could not help but to complain again about the size of the cup as they had reduced it since months ago. I could not stand the small serving with the same amount of price, which failed to give me the satisfaction especially with the enormous numbers of free ice inside the drinks.

Jingkun sent me home. Without looking at the clock, I knew well it was already very late.

NP Meet-up and Mingfa’s Early Birthday Celebration

One of my busiest weekends was last Saturday. There was not much time to enjoy myself enough before the meet-up with my ex polytechnic classmates. Just as I was about to leave my house, Mingli called me to ask me get a cake for Mingfa; I was quite lost at first since I was already running out of time and that I did not know what time I would get home. It took me quite a while to remember that the cake shop at my neighbourhood was opening for throughout the night. I quickly rushed down to order a black forest cake and told the girl that I would collect it at night.

My eventful weekends started.

Meeting up with my ex comrades was great for it was always my wish to gather with my old friends occasionally. It was all because of my laziness to leave my house and lack of concentration to accomplish my work that I had neglected so many friends.

Benson made this gathering possible. As predicted, he brought his DSLR camera and even his tripod stand along and I was so ashamed to take out my old camera from my bag. After loitering around for a while, we proceeded to Breeks at Harbourfront where the rest started to join up with us. Somehow, we felt weird that the crews did not greet us like how they welcomed the rest of the customers. I made the same old order.

After the lunch, Yongming left us with his girlfriend. The rest of us went to Vivocity to walk around and eventually stopped at a café where we had to spend some time battling with the waitress to allow us to pull more sofa chairs over. The drinks were expensive but quite big in the serving.

Benson started playing with his two-month old baby and the flashes hit a foreign gentleman who was indulging in his book in the once quiet place. He was gone after some time.

The temptation of owning a DSLR camera multiplied. It was probably due to the fact that my old Olympus D-750 was too old that the image quality, focus speed, start up speed and recovering speed between shots were too backdated that I felt the urge for a better equipment.

We went to the Sky Garden and took group pictures before we parted.

It was after ten when I got home, Mingli informed me that she and Weitat were on their way to my place. I joined them downstairs fifteen minutes later and collected the cake. Then, we proceeded to the Hong Kong Café at East Coast Park to meet up with Mingfa, Mingen and Tiffany. Mingfa looked tired, whereas Mingen was having bad diarrhoea.

We began hiding the cake at the cashier and bringing it out after midnight. It was not very romantically done. By then, we were already full and thus did not eat much of the cake.

Volleyball after Reservist

After missing two sessions of volleyball game, I finally got to get back to the court again. I was, however, hesitating to leave the house; there were too many things to do and I was just too tired.

Sleepiness took control over me and I felt doped. This evening, there were another team who came over. Without properly warm-up, I started into the game and was caught in embarrass situation where I lost points during spiking. After the first game, Mingfa mentioned about Edison Chen and until then I realised Shengli was among the team; that described how sleepy I was. Like usual, when there were too many people, I would play as libero even when I was ready to float in the air and itch for more spiking.

The game ended late. Supper was at East Coast Park’s Hong Kong Café again. It happened like all other time that they served wrong food again. However, I had to admit that the food was quite tasty even though I always took only the same few dishes.

On the way home, Mingfa took over Wilson’s car. They advised me to take up driving again and I really hoped to do it except that money was too big an issue. Unlike any of my friends, there was a big burden on my shoulder.
