Finally, Met up with Jenrine

[Tuesday, 4 January, 2011]

I had some discussion with my younger brother and eventually I went to sleep at 2.30am. Failing to doze off, I joined my elder brother. I woke up after 10am and went to the office.

Mike and I had our lunch at the second storey of Tanjong Pagar. He was then harassed by the car company Eazi Car Rental because they insisted him to pay the money for the wear and tear car battery. He got pissed off for the first time in front of me but I thought his temper was much better than mine.

We walked back to office and discussed over how Singapore’s review website had sided companies, probably because they were paying money for advertisements all that. There was no honest review site that allowed users to post bad reviews without being moderated by the companies. Therefore, a nasty company could easily get lots of fake good reviews on Singapore review websites. We even suspected that most of the so-called good reviews were written by the product or service companies themselves.

I had a chat with Vanessa finally after she commented on my Facebook. She thought I was doing great with an office space but I debated with her that it was Mike’s success because I did not get to contribute any amount of money. However, the conversation was short lived as usual because she was busier than me.

Mike left the office earlier to settle stuffs. I left during the evening to The Cathay’s Starbucks. Along the way, I saw that most of the shops at MacDonald’s House building were closed. Though the days when I was rushing projects with Soon Siong and the university gang at Starbucks was tough but I really missed them a lot. I had a cup of frappuccino while I tried to rush some work for the tuition agency, working on a new page regarding facebook.

It was not long before I went over to Plaza Singapura to meet up with Jenrine at the Long John’s Silver for dinner. I had quite a long chat with her over there, telling her the situation of my site. We went over to The Cathay to meet up with her boyfriend and I treated them for the movie.

Back at home, I continued with my work and at times when I wanted to ask my younger brother stuffs, he was too busy.

Harry Potter Movie with my Mentor

[Thursday, 25 November, 2010]

I was working on my Singapore tuition agency website as usual before I went to sleep at 4am. I woke up at 10am and started working on Tze Khit’s eNets payment. After taking a nap, I went to Vivocity to meet up with Mike.

After reaching the place at 3pm sharp, I tried to contact Mike to check if he had arrived. I had another shock of my life against caused by my phone again for his number was no longer inside my contact list. I had never expected anything like that to happen for I had always been keeping my contacts inside my SIM card. After my phone died on me and I started using the old Nokia 3120, I had the same shock quite often.

There was nothing much I could do. I thought he would contact me once he reached. I went to the Starbucks and waited a while until there was empty space, I quickly tried to log into the internet using my laptop. I also called my younger brother to try to get him to insert his SIM card into my dead phone, which the numeric buttons were still working. However, Mike messaged me through MSN and we agreed that internet made wonders. He reached soon and explained that he had sent me an SMS followed by a call, which another guy picked up instead. He was using my old number probably.

We had a very long conversation there. He went through my tuition agency website and gave me feedbacks. He showed me his plans and I was very stunned by his ideas. We went to Carl’s Junior for dinner before he collapsed from famine. Then, we went to the Harry Potter movie. It was a bad start for my stomach was torturing me and I did not expect myself to last through the movie.

Harry Potter was reasonably a good movie, however, it reminded me of “Lighting Thief”, which the characters were looking for items one by one. It was just like a RPG game.

It was quite pathetic for me as I rarely went for movies and yet, I went with guys instead of girls almost every time. Nevertheless, I benefited a lot from the trip for it was much clearer to get answers from Mike face to face rather than using MSN.

After reaching home, I started working hard to “gain back” the time that I had lost. I had a very hard time trying to work on a software and web utility that Mike passed to me. My brain was almost bursting when my brothers were discussing over holiday trip and they repeatedly bugged me that killed my mood for any trip entirely.

Borrowing Gilbert’s Camera, Returning Graduation Gown and Working with Irwin

[Wednesday, 28 April, 2010]

My brother invited me to a game of Command and Conquer Generals. It was the second time I moved my laptop to sit beside him to battle against the computers in the three-against-five war. I started blogging and knocked off at 5am.

In the morning, I went to meet Gilbert to borrow his camera just below his office. He took some time to explain to me regarding the functions. I felt quite bad for he had an outing on Saturday morning and he would not be able to use his camera then. Next, I went to Potong Pasir to return my graduation gown to the Serangoon Broadway photo studio. I could not recognise myself in the photo which I was having a handshake with the presiding officer, Professor Joe Chicharo, taken by them. They were good in selling products for they wanted me to get a larger version of the photo with frame at the price of $45, which I immediately rejected them.

I went to Vivocity to meet up with Irwin. I only got to see a quite pretty girl while waiting for him at the seat at level one. We proceeded to Starbucks and the golden area I sat when meeting Hoay Min previously was available and we started camping there for the entire afternoon. There were some distractions, especially from a couple. The girl sounded like a slut, raising her voice while flirting with the guy. Then, she repeatedly called “bitch” for very long that both Irwin and I felt like going over to give her a slap. An ang moh sitting behind the guy and besides our table seemed to be irritated by them and left.

It was not a very good afternoon for me for I had designer’s block. At least, I got to read through one edition of the Home Décor magazine, and some of the designs impressed me a lot.

We left in the early evening and had ultra late lunch at Long John’s Silver. We went to Daiso where I got myself another belt to replace the current one. After that, we played a round of basketball at the arcade. I tested Gilbert’s camera and the battery bar dropped very soon.

Meeting up with Dear Sister Hoay Min

[Thursday, 15 April, 2010]

I continued with the struggle with my portfolio, sleeping only after 4am. I woke up near 9am before my alarm clock sounded. I checked my phone and realised my dear “sister” Hoay Min had cancelled the lunch appointment with me. I was sleepy and tried to get back to my sleep but the thought about my portfolio kept me alive suddenly. I started working on my laptop on the mattress but soon, my brother invited me to join him and his girlfriend at the MacDonald’s.

I packed up my laptop and took it along. After having the unusual breakfast where some memories caught me, I took a corner seat to start doing my work alone. I realised the Wireless@SG at all MacDonald’s restaurants did not allow posting comment in Facebook. The current online visitor counter on my website, which used Ajax was not spared. I did not stay there for long as the crowds started to flood the place with noise. It was the busiest hour for the restaurant in the working district. I packed up and left without feeling very accomplished.

I continued with my portfolio at home until the mid afternoon, I went to Vivocity to meet Hoay Min. After passing by the Starbucks nearer to the cinema a few times, I finally found a seat by the glass at the corner. It was not the best seat for I could not get to see a cute girl who was using her laptop.

Hoay Min was late for quite long but I was glad enough to meet her after so long ever since I ORDed. We had long chat and she was one of the best listeners ever, able to withstand me talk out of the topics every now and then. She was the first and only person whom I told clearly about what I had been doing recently, including my Facebook marketing plans. I was glad that I could finally pour out such that at least a person on this Earth would not accuse me of enjoying myself all these while.

We left after 7pm since she had another appointment with her friends at the Coffee Bean. I went home to continue with my portfolio.

Cute Girl in Purple Dress

On Thursday, my FYP team had our meeting with the supervisor for the last time. It was mainly to discuss about the PowerPoint for presentation.

I had taken leave and spent the entire afternoon working on flash. Somehow, it took me very long to start recapping it.

The meeting was held at the usual place and at the usual time. The only difference was that the girl-next-door staff, Alicia, was around.

I had a quick run-through of the draft PowerPoint slides with Mr John Lim and he left soon after. We continued with testing of setup and in the midst, I was badly distracted. A cute girl wearing a purple dress was at the shop next door. I did not expect much until she and her friends came in to get some drinks. I would consider it a lucky night for the sight even though it was just minutes of pleasure to the eyes. While we were leaving, I saw her sitting near the glass door.

Out of so many babes I had seen over at The Cathay Starbucks, she was the greatest to my liking, even though she was not extremely pretty.

Weird Lunching Team

On Tuesday morning when I reached my desk, I saw the driving basic theory book. Kevin remembered it well and spent extra efforts to even place it there, which made me very touched.

It was not an easy morning when there was invigilation to do, especially having to arrange the messed up tables and seats in the normal classroom. Luckily, I was seeing my favourite class.

I had one of the weirdest lunching team. Since Mei Hoe had work to do, Vivian joined Daniel and I at the “Dead end”. I took a plate of wantan mee while both of them had fish soup. The stall was ridiculous to charge Daniel an extra forty cents for changing the noodle to rice, but Daniel claimed that the bowl of soup had more ingredients.

We had half an hour lunch, one of the fastest ever. After sending Vivian back, I accompanied Daniel to IMM’s Giants to get apples. I wanted to get some for Mei Hoe but the expensive and big ones did not have very good skin. After choosing for very long, I gave up.

I was studying for my driving test all the way inside the car on both trips. However, on the returning trip, I almost dozed off completely a couple of times.

I stayed for longer than usual again in the late afternoon before walking alone to the MRT station. I went to Long John Silver’s at Plaza Singapura for dinner and Stephen joined me after that. We moved to The Cathay’s Starbucks to meet up with Soon Siong and later, we did some testing and I was quite amazed by both the programmers’ work. Andy did not go down due to work. We stayed until around 10.30pm before we called it a day.

Another Hectic Friday

Yesterday was definitely a killer.

I did relief for Alex at 8am and my throat was worsened by the non-stop talking to impart the MS Access skill to the hardworking people. It happened that Alex was back at 10am and thus, I stayed with Jonathan to do another hell two hours of singing.

There were many tiny pieces of stuffs to do inside the office. I filled up a form to submit to UOW for the graduation, finding it so tedious and frustrating to go through the crap when they definitely had my details inside the database already. I could even get my students to pull the data out using MS Access queries, and I expected them to do a better job.

Lunch was alone again. I went down to the canteen to packet my rice back to the office before continuing my work. Next, I tried to scan the identification card and the printed and written form, but the desktop attached to the printer was a head nut. Chi Chiang brought me down to the administration office and I witnessed how pestering could help to get things done fast.

I was rushing back to office to take my medicine when I met Wei Ming who told me to go to the lab first to prepare for invigilation. I had the urge to give a tight slaps to some really sickening hopeless creatures.

Back to the office, I was still busy sending emails and boss talked to me. I promised to help him for another month but he suggested until end of March. The conversation was interrupted and we decided to continue the talk on the next Monday.

When Weiming suggested to leave, I quickly packed up while dropping my FYP-mates a reminder SMS. Then, both of us left together with Chenghong under the rain. Weiming alighted at Commonwealth MRT while Chenghong accompanied me until Dhoby Ghaut.

On the way, there was a china guy blasting his mobile phone music loud. There were many people of other races including foreigners around and I felt very ashamed of him as a Chinese. For a moment I gave him a stare but he reacted nothing. He got his ass out of the seat at Outram Park MRT station.

I met up with Andy at The Cathay before going to Plaza Singapura for dinner. The Indonesian chicken stall had long queue and thus I chose another stall which sold fried chicken with rice, kind of mini wok stuff, but it disappointed me. There were some kids in their early teens sharing the table with us, and I wondered how much pocket money they had, but they were definitely much more fortunate than me when I was at their age.

Andy and I enjoyed our sight on the way back to The Cathay. While waiting for the rest to come, I dozed off for a while after the hectic day. There was no news of Jeremy. Mr John came late but his presence certainly brought us to a clearer picture what the presentation would be like.

I reached home after 10pm.

Health was Big Issue

Yesterday morning, I woke up having my left calf cramp suddenly after a normal little wake-up stretch, or rather, straightening of my legs. Luckily, the pain subsidized soon. I struggled for some time to decide whether which type of doctor should I visit – western or Chinese physician. Alas, I took the latter.

I was the third in queue, but before that, I was lectured by the cashier who told me that that was a charity organization and thus I should not have passed her a fifty dollars note for the four dollars registration fee but my wallet was already empty and there was nothing I could do.

The doctor said I was extremely “heaty” and that indeed I had flu. I went out quite soon to get my medicine, handing over the used empty bottle over to the pharmacist, who further nagged at me for not removing the previous label. Since more than ten years ago it was okay for them to paste new labels over the old ones and I was not sure of their new restriction, so much for disallowing recycling of the bottle months ago since the H1N1 outburst.

I went to report to work still after getting changed at home. Once I reached the office, I almost started to shiver under the air-conditioner and thus I had to move to an empty classroom again. It was in fact, too late, that my illness was already worsened before the shifting.

Lunch was together with Daniel, Dorothy, Jingkun and surprisingly, Chi Chiang. We went to West Coast hawker centre and I took chicken chop despite the “heatiness” inside my body. The meat was quite disappointing.

In the afternoon, I went to the lecture theatre for the briefing organized by the Fitness Department in regarding of the health improvement challenge. Actually, I was only interested in the results of the previous health screening. I was given a student trainer who could not escape my nose that he was a smoker. However, since he looked quite soft and nice, I did not want to make things difficult for him and thus, I did not say anything nor request for a change. The Polar watch loaned was quite interesting and I could not wait for my illness to be cured so that I could go for a jog using it.

I went for dinner with Mei Hoe. We went to the Clementi new shopping centre and decided to dine at Sakae Sushi. I did not feel good that Mei Hoe insisted to foot the bill again, saying that she was treating me as her god son. I did not want to owe anyone any favour no matter how close we were.

Anyway, she showed me her medical report, displaying the extreme low blood cells in her body to worsen my mood. She could have collapsed anytime. Worrying for anyone was the worst thing I would want to do after being drained off totally more than a month ago.

When I was reaching The Cathay’s Starbucks, I checked my phone and realized Andy had dropped me a message that he was not feeling well and thus would not be going down. Soon Siong and Stephen were already there and there was no sign of Mr John or Jeremy would come down, let alone to reply our emails. Seeing that I was weakened by the illness, both of them decided to call it a day soon.

Jeremy was still Missing

It could be a long weekend for Friday was a holiday, but I had FYP meeting on Sunday. It was never like a year before that I could really go out with friends.

We were stuck outside of The Cathay Starbucks for inside was packed. The place was cool with the fans on top of the ceiling, better than what we had always expected. The only problem was the lack of power supply.

Jeremy continued to stay missing in action but we did not blame him since he had done a fair amount of work since beginning. We felt weird and worried for him instead. We did not expect anyone to give up after so many months of hard work.

We moved into the air-conditioned place after some time when Stephen’s laptop was going to dry up, but having to split into two tables.

In the late afternoon when we were almost done up at around 5pm, I gave Irwin a call. Instead of meeting at Vivocity, he had arranged a meet up with Eugene at Bugis at around 7.30pm. I was not feeling well and thus, decided to stay at home instead.

Treats from the Nice People

Yesterday, I had lunch with Xiao Mei at IMM where I received my belated birthday treat. We chose Ajisen for the reasonable set meal price. It was quite okay but I would prefer western food. After finishing our meals, we shopped at one of the baby shops and followed by Daiso.

In the evening, Bernard dropped Mdm Seet and me at Dover MRT station. Mdm Seet accompanied me for dinner at Plaza Singapura’s food court and treated me a cup of milk tea at the Xin Wang café at the basement level.

It was not long before I would not have time to meet up with all the great people.

I made a wrong choice of getting a venti size Dark Mocha frappuccino at The Cathay Starbucks during the FYP meeting, which was so sweet that I could not finish.
