Consultation with Mr Japit

Last Thursday, there was a big delay in work. Bernard told me the event would probably end at around four PM and thus I arranged a meeting with my teacher, Mr Japit, for consultation.

I loved so much to be involved in my job’s events or activities to gain more exposure and experience, however, I was brooded down by my studies.

Anyway, the event ended at five PM and luckily, Jingkun was around to send me to SIM. Mr Japit impressed me a lot with the different examples he illustrated to open up my eyes at the tough questions.

A pity for the little was insufficient enough that Jingkun could not enquire much about his work. The tiredness ate up some of my memory after the consultation.

It was not a school day and yet I was travelling home late from SIM, but everything was worthwhile.

Golf and Meet-up with Irwin

Last Wednesday night, the sudden invitation from Irwin for golfing was too tempting. Actually, I had already told him twice that I needed to submit my last two assignments on Friday and could only meet him out after that.

Since it was necessary to release my stress, I decided to join him. He came down in his brother’s car to pick me up to Queenstown. It took me quite long to get back a bit of the “feeling”. The usual blisters came back to haunt me.

After the game, we had some chat downstairs my house before ending the night.

Character-building over Academic

It is difficult to control a batch of kids who simply cannot take in words. No matter how soft and how friendly you treat them, they probably just enjoy what they are already doing.

After a year of observation, I have concluded that how they behave depends a lot on the form teacher. Is the teacher showing good example to the kids? Is the teacher able to maintain the discipline?

Situation nowadays has turned so bad in some educational institutions those teachers who simply only hold high qualifications are junks as compared to disciplined teachers who do not possess big papers.

Has the society realised that the character development of kids nowadays is more important than anything else?

No.

Kids are being over well-pampered by parents nowadays that many show no respect to the teachers. There is no way to handle the kids when no disciplinary action can be taken when the parents are shielding their kids with AK47. Sadly, there are other cases such as kids having broken families, which have caused them to give up on themselves.

It has come to a point that fewer dedicated people are moving into the educational field but more money-minded youngsters are seeing the high salaries government is paying them. The kids are too difficult to handle, such that the good people are giving up, leaving a big empty space to fill in, which is why the useless ones are tempted. These people cannot handle the kids well enough that they turn worse, and start to influence others to an extent that they are beyond control.

Kids who are brought up in an educational system such that academic is supreme to anything else are growing up to pass on the same logic to others, especially if they choose their career path as teachers. Of course, the society that requires certifications has a share to place the poison to the system.

The long draining process over the years has killed the dreams of dedicated teachers.

Out of the big group of workers who situate themselves in the educational system, I can easily spot jerks. It becomes so obvious when the teacher brings his kids to another institution and start asking the lecturer if they can play poker cards inside the classroom, that we know he is such a bastard.

6000 Words and Two Birthday Parties

One of the most memorable days of my life was two Saturdays ago. The writing of the 6000-words report kept me awake throughout. It was not long before afternoon collapsed and I was into a more panic state.

My younger brother had left his laptop and printer on specially for me while he was away. However, the printer was out of ink. Luckily, Yuan Le was still at home and he helped me to print my report.

I had to give the earlier part of the lecture a miss. Soon Siong messaged me to check out why I was not there and I was very glad to have made a new worthy friend. The remaining presentations ended early but Doctor Loo was staying inside the lecture theatre to wait for the assignments. I also waited there for Yuan Le and we actually intended to have our dinner in school but since it was a Saturday, the canteens closed early.

I went straight to Clementi and on the way, I called Weiming and Bernard but they were not ready to move off early to Cassandra’s birthday party. I took MRT to Choa Chu Kang to transit to LRT. It was the first time I did not check out an unfamiliar place on the map before proceeding there and it was a great mistake.

I alighted at Bukit Panjang Station and realised the surrounding building numbers were far from the given address. I messaged Cassandra and realised that I had copied down her number wrongly. I looked at the map at the bus interchange but I did not have a compass and such that, I actually took the wrong direction and back to Phoenix station. It was raining and nothing was going well except for the fact that there was a sweet girl besides me when I was at the interchange.

I returned to the interchange and went to Bukit Panjang Plaza. I was quite excited at first until I realised I had visited it before during army days. Anyway, I could not make a decision what to get for Cassandra, and thus, I gave up. By then, I was clear of the correct route to her house.

I waited at the lobby to wait for Weiming and Bernard. When the KB girls arrived, I joined them, which was clearly a good decision since Bernard was already up there. Bernard persuaded me to join him at Benny’s party, which was at Pasir Ris. We did not wait for Weiming who seemed to take forever to arrive after telling me he needed to take a bath hours ago.

It was pouring on the way and thus, the traffic was slow and packed. We walked through the rain and got ourselves drenched badly. The fact that my shoes were wet turned me off. Bernard told me his car had umbrella and I was stunned. I did not mind getting wet but he was a father-to-be and should have taken better care of himself. He showed me how good eater he was at the buffet dinner. After the cake cutting session, we left in quick pace and he had a slip near the carpark. We proceeded to the car park and he told me he was alright, which I was not very certain of. Anyway, he dropped me opposite Tanjong Pagar Railway station and I got drenched for the fourth time. Luckily, his petrol was enough to last him to the next petrol station.

It was a hassle to have a family to take care of, having to rush home. It was also quite a headache to attend two birthday parties on the same evening. I should have just gone home directly after submitting my essay instead of harming my health.

Third Implementation Task

Two Fridays ago, I was stuck with my assignment as usual. It was the third implementation task and I did not seem to be ready for the entire module yet.

The sudden change of the poster design was a surprise to me for I thought everything was almost completed. Luckily, I was quick enough to amend it to sum up the more than twenty emails exchanged.

I stayed inside the office until after five and went to school directly to continue with my work but to realise there was nothing much I could do. I submitted only one mark out of the two and half marks question. The frustration could never be described.

Later, I realised the last question required installation of a sample database in order to do. Even though it was already copied into a CD given by the lecturer long time ago, it was not mentioned in the task’s instructions, which was ridiculous.

It was not the end of the terror.

First Quiz in UOW

Last Thursday morning, I began the day with lots of distraction. The initial plan was to spend the morning, which was being spared from Bukit Batok, to concentrate on my assignments but problems kept invading my time.

I involved in HTML debugging and many people approached me for helps and advice. Other than moving out of the office, I was kind of grounded with the old Microsoft Access stuffs besides me.

The best thing was that I finally got to reformat the computer on my desktop. Kevin actually offered to crack the password for me but I decided I would rather remove all the old junks inside.

I took the first quiz ever in my university in the evening. It was simply a short test that required my hand to be worn off. Overall, the perfect attendance allowed me to know enough stuffs to answer the questions without much revision.

Alone at Bukit Batok Again

Last Wednesday began a depressing day. Not only that I did not get to participate in the mass event and have to miss the chance to play bowling with all the nice people, I had to go to Bukit Batok alone yet again. Perhaps, I was very used to it already. I was used to the draining, the loneliness and the isolation from others.

It was not that bad as the day started off with beautiful people. There were fun and laughers in the undesirable place. There were two girls who looked so much like twins and the rest of them were as sweet as well.

I had to go back to office alone, having to packet my lunch to the office. It had been quite long since I last went home by myself and I started to wonder if I should be concentrating on my websites at home in the next month.
