Birthday Celebration of the Three Besties

[Sunday, 28 November, 2010]

I started work on the home tutor Singapore page to list the tutors using Ajax. It was a stressful morning. Seeing that Lucky was bored and nobody seemed to have taken him down for a walk, I took him down alone after 3am. He refused to dump his waste downstairs but luckily the poo ended up on target at home. Clearing the newspapers was much easier than clearing the poo on the floor directly. I blogged and went to sleep near 9am.

I woke up at noon and started packing up. I went to Mount Faber Safra to join Peh and Gilbert for our post-birthday celebration. My stomach was causing problems. Anyway, Gilbert made a Doraemon cake by himself. After celebrating by the pool, just outside the gym, we started swimming. Gilbert and I were too lazy that we only went for four laps before we started chatting at the Jacuzzi.

We went to Lock Road for dinner. It was Indonesian food and the sauce for the chicken was quite nice. However, we wasted a plate of mango salad.

After Peh sent me home in his new car, I continued working on my tuition agency site.

My Birthday 2010

[Thursday, 4 November, 2010]

Facebook kept me occupied for hours. It was tedious to reply to the birthday greetings; and at certain point of time, the flood overtook my pace. I went to bed at 4am.

I managed to wake up on time. In the train, there was an insane uncle bothering me, asking me which camp I was from and he kept asking me to go to the cookhouse to eat. I realised Terry was two doors away from me at the opposite side. The uncle did not spare him. However, he moved away fast enough to end his torment earlier. Later on, Kang told us he was being woke up by an idiot and we knew he was the same person. I had overheard an auntie saying this old man loved to disturb people in army uniform.

I bought a hotdog bun for breakfast. It was an unusual day for there was a safety talk, which all of the NSmen were forced to attend as well. Basically, all except one shit point regarded us at the end of a talk. We had a boring discussion for the safety day before moving for lunch break. There was a mini birthday celebration and I had to be the centre of attraction.

I left camp earlier together with Terry since we had got the off pass settled. I logged on to Facebook and there were more birthday greeting for me to reply.

I dozed off in the evening and left for dinner with my mum and younger brother at 8pm after the channel 8 show. We went to Manhattan at Central. Gastric pain attacked me but our seafood platter came late. We had two glasses of drinks and they were pretty interesting. We walked to One Fullerton after the dinner instead of taking straight bus home directly.

After reaching home, I was surprised with a cake. The whole family was around to celebrate together. I kept myself busy replying to birthday greeting in Facebook.

I had lost count of the number people who greeted me. It was probably over two hundred of them. I was excited to see messages from people whom I thought would never greet me, on the other hand, I was disappointed to hear nothing from some good friends.

Movie Night (Joei’s Birthday) at Zaki’s Place

[Friday, 4 June, 2010]

Friday morning, I struggled with my second bowl of fried rice. It was supposed to be my dinner but I took my supper outside and thus I had to finish it before my mum started nagging.

My main delivery of the day was numerous outdated blog posts.

I arranged with Hirman to pick me up on his way to Zaki’s house but Jenne was coming over to purchase a cake at the Amara Hotel and thus I waited for her instead. She told me she would be arriving at 6.30pm but she was delayed for more than an hour.

We went to make the order but Jenne realised her wallet was not with her and thus she went back to her car to search for it. I made the payment, signing off with my Go! card for the first time. Since she did not look very happy after her stressful day of work, I felt quite unsafe to talk much. She drove and overtook countless cars on the busy road and I was very worried for I was holding onto the cake.

Zaki, the chef, was cooking in front of all the hungry people who were chewing chips. It was to my horror that the main ingredient was beef. In order not to trouble anyone, I had a very plain dinner.

Cleaning the dishes was fun. Next was the cake cutting session for Joei but since Hirman had earlier on exposed Jenne’s location without knowing, it was no longer a surprise for Joei.

Everyone left except for Hirman and I.

Weitat’s Advance Birthday Celebration

[Tuesday, 4 May, 2010]

I slept after 4am again but this time, I woke up much earlier at 10am, feeling that I should be doing something worthy instead of slogging endlessly over my websites with little progress. However, I dozed off again before I could do much work.

Gilbert’s sudden SMS to inform me that he would pick up his camera from me in the evening was a challenge to me since my ex colleagues and I were going to celebrate Weitat’s birthday in advance. I quickly called him and he told me he did not take MC again despite he was still sick.

Jenne called me in the late afternoon to tell me that she would be going to town from Choa Chu Kang and arranged to pick me up. We decided to buy Weitat’s cake at Amara Hotel. I quickly took my shower and also burned the photos taken during the orientation camp into a CD for Hirman before I set off to meet Gilbert at the entrance of South Point. We were chitchatting away happily until Jenne rang me up and I rushed off to the Amara Hotel to meet her. We chose a chocolate cake and the lady told us we had to wait. We burst into laughers in amazement when she answered us that we had to wait for simply ten minutes.

After getting the cake, we went straight to the Wine Company besides the old NIE. Hirman was sitting alone and he had already finished his dinner with a glass of red wine on the table. The DSLR camera he placed on the table captured my interest. Both of them thought I would be able to operate it easily, however, I was in fact a newbie to expensive gadgets. I ordered a plate of fish and chips and the serving took more than forty-five minutes to come, inclusive of a reminder. Sadly, it did not taste good. The chicken wings were quite well done though and the Champaign was awesome.

Weitat, Joei and Magdalene arrived after 7pm. The last to reach was Zaki. By then, I already had a better understanding of Hirman’s five-years-old DSLR camera, given by his friend. It was a very cosy night except that mosquitoes were having a big feast as well. On the other hand, both Hirman and I seemed to be completely safe. The hottest topic was the student being possessed and all the horror stories disturbed Hirman badly. It was a fantastic dinner with the few of my greatest pals.

Hirman sent me home. I quickly got changed and grabbed my laptop before joining him at the carpark. Then, we started the long journey to his temporary rented place at Changi Village. It would be my greatest regret if I had rejected his invitation for it was a cool Terrance house owned by LTA. There were a small living room, a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom, and it was as good as a chalet. The only problem was that there was no television and I had to give my favourite show on channel U a miss.

In fact, I was quite worried about my mum since my younger brother was already not at home and my presence at home would be more comforting.

First Day of Work After Reservist

The first day of work after the long reservist and festival break was better than any other day. Due to the cancellation of the morning lesson at Bukit Batok, I was pardoned from official work. Magdalene was cute in her cheongsam and I made her take photos with me.

I handed over the Polar watch to Mr Neo and I knew it would affect me quite badly in my future jogs.

Having lunch together with my usual clings was more cherished than before for I knew there was not many chances in future after March. We went to IMM’s Red Ginger and after that, Meihoe and I gave the fruit stall a second chance.

Weitat’s idea to get a “Choco Exotic” cake from the Four Leaves cake shop for Joy kept me entertained in the afternoon. It was great to make friends happy.

The downturn of the day was the cancellation of Bukit Timah Walk. Basically, most people had either forgotten or changed their minds.

Dorothy’s Birthday

Last Saturday was Dorothy’s birthday. It was due to the outing that I halted my Saturday’s jog to Marina Barrage. It started with a couple of weeks ago’s chat with her in the office when she mentioned we did not have lunch together for quite long. Since that weekend was preoccupied with my brother’s chalet and that I had reservist during weekdays, I suggested the Saturday that her actual birthday actually fell on.

I was at the Amara hotel, trying to choose a cake for Dorothy as told by Jingkun. I stood there for quite long since my phone could not show the contacts suddenly. I had to search for the recently dialled list but Dorothy answered the phone for him since he was driving. Next, I checked my SMS for Mei Hoe’s number and she told me Dorothy preferred chocolate. She was nagging at me for I was not on my way yet; however, she ended up reaching there later than me.

It was a torment to squeeze into the crowded train and walking through the crowded Orchard Road with a cake; I had to take at least three times slower than my usual pace to avoid crashing into all the ugly and inconsiderate people. It did not really worth it since Daniel had also bought another cake. Anyway, Dorothy seemed to know that we were celebrating for her somehow.

I was quite disappointed with the Straits Kitchen at Grand Hyatt Hotel. I did not like the variety of food and they were not impressive to me. However, their service was excellence. Of course, the food was more high class than other buffet restaurants.

After the dinner, we chose to go to Dorothy’s house to play mahjong over karaoke. I had a few games in place of Jingkun and I realised I had totally forgotten the drawing of tiles. I spent some time watching television in the living room alone and managed to debug for http://smokeforwhat.com.

My Belated Birthday Lunch

Yesterday’s lunch was almost a mess again. Dorothy insisted on celebrating my belated birthday together with Hirman’s after we had delayed it for very long.

Daniel, Weitat, Meihoe and I made the advanced party down to West Coast Plaza. Dorothy arrived next, followed by Jingkun. We almost thought Hirman and Kevin could not make it due to invigilation and we could have wasted the food we had preordered for them. Alas, they made it down.

When Jingkun mentioned about the latest rape case in Singapore, my mind almost went blank. The worries seemed to penetrating into me again.

It was quite a rush lunch since Hirman had an event to handle, whereas Meihoe needed to go for badminton competition. We could not really sit down to enjoy the meal while chit-chatting. Even for the cake cutting session was too quick that I felt the atmosphere was really weird. Hirman sent Meihoe back to the campus and the rest of us left soon.

Nevertheless, it was a rare get-together with Kevin and Hirman’s presence. It was a good-willed planning from Dorothy, who even made the effort to email us early in the morning for the arrangement. It was my fault in fact for I denied the birthday dinner from them on my actual birthday when everyone was free.

Jenne’s Birthday Celebration 2009

Last Friday was a meaningful day. I had chances to render help to others on my free will.

Hard work was never too bad with good colleagues around.

Lunch was great with Dorothy, Jingkun, Weitat and Elvin at West Coast Plaza’s Dian Xiao Er.

In the evening, Magdalene, Weitat and I took Hirman’s car to shop for Jenne’s birthday cake. Poor Hirman was staying behind to decorate the place. I was full of guilt because he had to take cab in the darkness after that to join us. Anyway, the shopping was fun. We went to Chinatown Plaza and realised the cake had to be pre-ordered. Then, we walked to Amara Hotel and saw some stylish looking cakes and decided to order one. We had sushi to fill up our stomachs before setting off. My extreme lack of sleep put me to bed during the journey.

Timbre @ Old School was a cool and cosy place to hang out. However, the hard fish and chips sucked to the maximum. However, other food tasted quite well, such as the chicken wings and pizzas. There was a high price to be paid for.

We went to Zaki’s studio apartment after that and the night was filled with interesting craps. The fun and sincere people touched my heart.

KO Graduation Party

Wednesday morning was a bad start of the day with a sudden changes requirement in the poster amendment. Though it was long anticipated with the previous experience, I was quite frustrated over the never-ending amendments.

I was in my new shirt which I bought during the previous shopping trip with Gilbert. Since it was more stylishly designed,

I attended the KO’s graduation party. It was an unexpectedly early celebration for there was still around three more months towards the end of their struggle. We had endless photo-taking sessions and two rounds of cake-eating sessions because Chun Leng was having his birthday.

Since the celebration stretched till after lunch time, and I had to grab a “bao” and “siew mai”.

The most frustrating thing was to receive an email regarding more amendments to the poster, which I felt all instructions should be given at one shot.

In the afternoon, we had a short badminton session. Since Weitat wanted to take a shower, Jingkun left in a rush first. Suddenly Weitat decided to go home directly but it was too late for me to catch Jingkun’s car since I was too tired to run anymore, and I did not want to dirt his car with my sweat.

Singapore Flyer, Popeye and Early Birthday Surprise

My Saturday was spent more sloppily than the previous week. The lack of sleep from the night cycling put me on the mattress every now and then since I did not get a straight comfort rest somehow.

I did try to make the best out of the day with my website. Meanwhile, I was pinning for the arrival of 7.30 PM for one of my favourite shows – 鹿鼎记. I actually dozed off and missed half an hour of it; the worst thing was that I did not manage to get my favourite fish and chips at the Amara hotel’s food court.

Mingfa called me in the midst of my show and I was quite delighted when they suggested going out for dinner. The final call from them cost the last few minutes of the show but I actually spent the time waiting at my void deck for them. Mingfa and Weitat came over to fetch me and together we went to the Singapore Flyer. We met up with Jingkun and Mingli who got there earlier and we bought the tickets.

The scenery was okay but the night’s darkness made photography difficult. I supposed every visitor had to choose between visibility and photography.

Anyway, the four of them were too excited and thus most of the shots were on them. The sudden decision to spend the thirty bucks saw disaster to my hair. It was my first ever ride on a ferries wheel. It was great to have the whole cabin to ourselves.

After the short-lived enjoyment, we finally got to chew on the chicken in the Popeye fast food restaurant. I was so hungry that I started peeling out the flesh immediately and almost burnt my fingers. It was delicious.

After the late dinner, they were discussing over the next destination. Mingli took Jingkun’s car again. I felt weird that they wanted to go to the Henderson Waves but the tiredness and excitements eased my suspicious.

We went to the petrol station before going up the Telok Blangah hill. When we stopped at the carpark, I was asking them if we needed to wait for Jingkun and Mingli but I did not get any answer before we started making our way up to the bridge. We took some stroll around before Jingkun came over and told us that Mingli was having menstruate and was sitting down at the end of the bridge. Suddenly, Jingkun gave me a plastic knife and I finally realised what was going on.

Mingli failed to light the last candle before our arrival. They started singing birthday song and I could feel their efforts. There was a little photo taking session before we ended the night and I had to bring the entire cake home since they were all full already.
