Firman’s Convocation and Wanling Met Lucky

[Wednesday, 6 October, 2010]

I spent some time after midnight asking Kachua and Joceyln to test my website. I went to bed at 5am eventually. Lucky refused to sleep and it was difficult to doze off as my mum would start screaming whenever he went near her.

I woke up before 7am and waited nearly half an hour for bus 75. It was ridiculous for the bus to take so long to arrive where the bus-stop was crowded with irritated faces. I regretted not leaving my house earlier or to take the train instead. It started pouring on the way to slow me down. Firman was worried throughout but I was very certain that everything was going to be fine since I had experienced convocation at SIM campus before.

I was right that I was still early even though the stated time was up. I took my time to go to the toilet to release myself but regretted not going in earlier since I could have taken a seat nearer to the stage for better shooting of pictures when Firman went up. Anyway, being at convocation ceremony was one of the things I hated most for the long speeches.

After it ended, we went down for phototaking. I was expecting more friends of him to be there but his classmates were not very “happening” and some had left early for group photos. I followed him around and missed taking food from the tables. I got hungry and had a little gastric pain. In the end, I took bus with him and his parents to Dover where we transited to train.

I went to Bianhong’s mum working place at the coffee shop. She was too busy to entertain the customer at the counter to see me. After standing there for very long, I left for home. Since I had asked Wanling to have lunch with me as I thought she would be coming down soon, I took only a small slice of mooncake.

It was almost 3pm when I went down to find Bianhong’s mum again. After passing her the thumbdrive to return to Bianhong, she treated me two packets of chicken rice. I went down to the MRT station to meet Wanling and we had our chicken rice at the hawker centre, followed by a bowl of ice-kachang.

Since Wanling could not find her kite, we called off the plan to go to the Marina Barrage and instead, we went straight to my house to play with Lucky. Lucky hit off well with her soon and he even scratched her as he got hyperactive. Together with my younger brother, we played for quite long and I got so tired since I had slept for less than three hours, and eventually dozed off inside the bedroom.

My mum, Wanling and I had dinner together after my brothers had their. My mum was asking questions and then she caused some embarrassment when she asked why we were together only now after knowing for so many years. It was a different case for my younger brother for my mum would never mistake his female friends as his girlfriend. Anyway, we quickly clarified with her.

After the dinner, we went down to get batteries before joining my brothers at the second storey for a while as they were playing with Lucky. I sent Wanling home soon. I tried contacting Gilbert since he was staying nearby and he thought we were together as well. We had good chats along the way and it was peaceful after alighting from the MRT station, walking towards her house. We stopped by the 7-11 store and grabbed two bottles of milk tea.

When I was crossing over to my house, someone called me and I was surprised that it was Tommy whom I met at MediaCorp years ago. I could not believe it that he could still remember me. I walked him to the MRT station as we chatted. I loved talking to him even though we did not chat often online.

NP Pals meet-up

[Friday, 08 September, 2006]

Shilin called for a meeting up but this time not everyone was informed due to miscommunication, which was a big regret.

We were supposed to meet at Plaza Singapura but I guessed she was late and thus did not pick up my call when she was on the bike. I met up with Jason and Benson instead, followed by Yongming. Then, we proceeded to Paradise Centre and met up with Lynn, Yaozhong and surprisingly Kelvin, who had been missing in action for years.

Some of us hesitated to go into the shop “Juju Hot Pot” ) because we estimated the price to be quite high. In the end, we still walked in and felt the pressure of pockets being sliced off.

Into the beginning of our feast, I became so excited with all the fun and delicious servings. The switch was interesting as well for it could adjust the temperature so fast. I almost got out of my mind and finally received this comment “I pity you must be seldom eat nice food”, which was very true.

The 70% done egg

Egg after you smash it

The super duper nice tasting egg waiting to be placed into your mouth!

My chicken set. There are others like beef, pork etc.

Noodle. Too sour though.

Side dishes

The super duper nice icy vinegar sour plum juice which I took damn long to finish because I wanted to prolong the enjoyment

Squeezing…

And the result, though not really very tasty

The temperature controller was fun as the soup got heated up so fast

Their speciality Pearl Harbour! Nice but seems to be common tasting.

This was Lynn’s hot desert; not sure what it was

It was a hot dinner and I was sweating in front of the hot pot after continuous “workout”. The main food, chicken slices, was actually just of normal taste; but overall it was a very nice dinner.

After that, we went to The Coffee Connoisseur (TCC) to chill up together while waiting for Cher Fong’s arrival.

Ice-cream seller at Chua Chu Kang

Raymond and I boarded the second shuttle bus and alighted together. Thinking it was still early, he decided to have ice-cream from the roadside motorcycle.

The auntie was of course pleased to entertain us and Raymond offered to give me a treat. I didn’t want it at first due to my cough, that the cleaner auntie had warned me not to take cold stuffs earlier on, but I was quite tempted.

I wanted to have the one in paper cup and was surprised to see she was using the styrofoam one that we normally used to drink coffee – that was quite big. As she kept asking me what favour I wanted, I got so confused because they usually just mix it.

In my usual self, so lazy to pick anything, I told her “anything”. She took a block of ice-cream and cut it into the size of the normal share for putting into the bread or biscuits.

When I was thinking that would be tedious for her to continue chopping it and then take other favours to repeat the process, she put the whole block into the paper cup and considered it done.

I stared with my eyes floated and questioned her in million doubts. Whereas she replied me with righteous that cup ice-cream should be done this way.

Obviously she didn’t understand what I meant and with my years of street knowledge, those ice-cream sellers would do some scoping from different ice-cream tubs for this kind of order.

I was too shocked to say more things and eventually walked away to leave her in her own dreamed market.

I was so embarrassed with the white cup and spoon. I was eating it like a dog, except that it was a cup and not a plate. I wanted to finish them up fast but realised I was done for when the part reaching out of the top of the cup was gone.

I tried to use the spoon to cut the remaining but the block was just too hard. When I succeeded for the first time, the small portion flew to the floor due to overuse of strength.

I must have blushed a lot at that point of time as I didn’t know what to do with the melting ice-cream on the floor near the MRT control station. I was completely lost and Raymond invited me to move further away when his ice-cream had completely infiltrated into his stomach.

I tried squeezing the bottom of the cup to push the ice-cream upwards but the cup broke and I quickly stopped. As Raymond slowly imparted me his recent stories in camp, the ice-cream finally got softer and soon I was able to use the spoon to tuck them into my mouth.

Ruiqin joined us and then I managed to reduce the strength of the ice-cream more. A passer-by had his trolley full of items dropped onto the floor and I watched Ruiqin and Raymond go forward to help out, while I held on to the cup and spoon on both hands, helplessly.

I quickly threw the remaining into my mouth, dumped the ugly cup and spoon, before I went forward to join in the fun.

Just when we were about to enter into the control station, I realised the sweeper had cleared the small portion of ice-cream on the floor and I finally felt relieved.
