Johor Bahru for Kaiwei’s Birthday

[Saturday, 11 December, 2010]

I was busy typing emails and later on, I tried to finish the article Home Tuition in Singapore before going to bed at 5am. Lucky woke me up near 11am as he sniffed my ear to cause irritation with the loud and air pressure.

I took MRT with my elder brother and mum and met up my elder brother’s girlfriend at Kranji station. Then, we took bus 170 over to Woodlands Checkpoint and then to Johor Bahru. The queue at Woodlands CheckPoint’s bus interchange was totally screwed up. Bastards had started cutting queue and forming a third queue in between the actual two ones. It was beyond control and none of the officials had attempted to clear the mess.

My mum went for haircut, treatment and dyeing of hair at the old shopping centre next to City Square. I had chicken rice with the couple while waiting. We went back to check on my mum and realised the salon allowed smoking inside and I was angered by such illegal act. We went shopping for a while before going back to find my mum again. The couple left to meet up with my younger brother and his gangs at the MacDonald’s while I stayed behind to wait. After my mum was done with her hair, she told me us she had purchased a bottle of lotion from the hairdresser. I was disgusted that she was cheated again as my elder brother told us that the hairdresser earned very high commission for such sales, which meant that we could get the lotion at much cheaper price elsewhere.

We went for lunch at the Hong Kong café because it was my younger brother’s birthday and we could get a big container of tea for free. We did not order a lot of food. After lunch, we separated into two groups. My younger brother stayed with his friends. It was a very boring afternoon for me. Sometimes I had to wait outside the crowded shops that my mum shopped in. I was sleepy and had many better things to do and it was a really big torment for me.

The two groups of us met up at 6pm and hopped on to the cabs that we had booked before we proceeded to a faraway seafood restaurant called “TKK” or “Ti Kong Kia” or “Son of Heaven”. It was by the side of the sea, facing Sembawang. Other than the good scenery, the service was excellence. It was too bad that I was not a seafood fanatic.

We went back to City Square after that and did a little shopping. Luckily, this time round, my mum was quick and we joined up with the rest soon. When we were crossing over the custom, we realised the design for arrival and departure were symmetrical after some confusion. We were waiting for CW2 bus to go straight to Bugis and my younger brother saw the Resort World bus. We left the queue and boarded our new discovery at the price of ringgit five bucks each. The bus left us at Keppel Road before it went towards Sentosa.

After reaching home, we saw that Lucky had messed up the entire place. My elder brother arrived almost at the same time and he was stunned to see that Lucky had destroyed his girlfriend’s new slippers.

I spent some time replying Wanling and Gilbert through Facebook about the upcoming outing.

Johor Bahru Trip with Family and Latecomer

[Sunday, 5 September, 2010]

I spent the morning blogging and surfing the net for the prices of iPhone and BlackBerry phone. I tried sleeping after 4am but could not doze off. I finally got up at 7am and started preparing myself for the Johor Bahru trip.

We went to the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station and bought the tickets for the train at 8.45am together with my aunt. It was the first time I used my new passport. We reached City Square before 10am and went to the MacDonald’s for breakfast while waiting for Anthony. He finally replied my younger brother’s SMS and told us that he would be late and thus we went shopping.

After we met up with Anthony, we went shopping for mooncake at the bazaar before having lunch at Kim Gary. We were surprised when Anthony bid us goodbye right after the lunch. We did more shopping after that and my mum also bought more mooncake. We took train back to Singapore.

We started enjoying the three slices of cake we got from Secret Recipe at Johor, together with bailey with milk. My younger brother forbade me from taking a nap since he did not want me to stay awake at night.

Our dinner at around 9pm was at the Muslim prata shop for the first time as we were too tired to travel farther away.

Johor Bahru Trip with Brother

Yesterday, I woke up early to go to Johor Bahru with my younger brother and his two buddies. It was a last minute notice given by him just the night before.

We took bus 75 to change into bus 170 at Bukit Timah area and alighted at Woodlands Centre Road to shop around since his friends were late. After that, we took a long walk towards the checkpoint. Our first mission was to grab some movie tickets. Each of us paid $7.50 ringgits for the show Avatar, but the problem was that there was no 3D available.

We went for brunch and I had a plate of chicken rice. All of them, except me, was kissed by the mosquitoes, and that was probably why the chicken rice was sold at only $3 ringgits. We went to shop before the movie started and were late for it since we were waiting inside an optical shop.

Avatar was a good movie. The plot and effects were nice, however, the sound system of the threatre gave some problems.

After the nearly three hours show, we continued with a little shopping before having our dinner at Merry Brown. Then, we purchased the train tickets and did another round of shopping.

It was a better day for there was fewer people around to display the human beings’ disgusting acts such as squeezing, pushing and dashing like mad dogs. We waited for very long for the train to leave for the Woodlands checkpoint. Some old people screwed up the queue and the customer officer was very sarcastic to them.

We waited very long again for the train to leave again. It took us almost two hours for the journey, more of waiting. After arriving at the Tanjong Pagar railway station, my brother and I walked an old lady to the MRT station before turning home.

Johor Bahru Trip

On Sunday, I made my trip down to Johor Bahru with my family, including my auntie. We took train to Kranji MRT station before transiting to bus 170. The queue was long and thus we had to stand eventually at the bus. Somehow, we were standing near the exit where a weird lady was sitting nearby. She dropped something and while she could easily get it, she tipped me on my back to irritate me, without even thanking me to move away for her ugly and clumsy hand to pick it up. Before the bus stopped, she even tried to make my elder brother and I excuse for her to rush down to get reborn. My brother halted her action on purpose.

We went on to the custom and I was quite afraid that they would reject me since my passport was going to expire in around five or six months’ time. I managed to get through and we joined in the ugly queue for bus 160. The people seemed desperate like the previous time I went. We arrived at the Malaysia custom and the queue was shorter than before since it was a new place where more counters were set up.

The first thing we looked for was food. My younger brother suggested Kenny Rogers, where the waiter joined two tables for the six of us near the door. We decided on our food fast and when a waitress passed by, she pretended not seeing or hearing us and walked into the restaurant straight away without signalling or calling her colleague for assistance, and thus, we walked off.

We went to “Wang Kok” café and were lucky to get our seats soon. There was a waitress number 5 who looked like Anqi but definitely had better complexion. I spotted on the last page where they offered big bucket of tea for birthday celebration and since my younger brother’s birthday was just two days ago, we got the free filling drinks to keep my stomach bloated.

We went shopping and I got myself a belt and a box of underwear from the Reject shop. I did not change for Ringgits since my younger brother and mum had some leftovers, and I felt uncomfortable. Next, we took cab to the “new” shopping centre where the train station was by the side. It was very quiet and almost half of the shop spaces were empty. We were later told that the shopping centre was bought over by another company, changed name, and perhaps, some renovation was done. The only shop that impressed me most was the one selling posters. I was very tempted by a giant “The day after tomorrow” poster where some effects were added to display two views. We spent quite some time at the arcade. My brothers enjoyed the basketball game, which cost RM$1 each. The walking almost made my left foot cramp since I had a jog just the night before.

Next, we took cab to a hawker centre for our dinner. I was not really interested in seafood but all of them loved the cheap shell animals.

After dinner, we went back to City Square. My younger brother rushed to find his keyboard protector but could not find the one for the exact model.

We rushed to the train station. The counter had a new ticket machine and two people cut our queue just because we did not know about it. The new instruction was in Malay. Anyway, the train was late probably due to conductors checking the tickets of those who boarded the train at the stations before. The people were jamming up at the doors and there were even empty seats in the middle of the cabins. Those ugly people even refused to give way to passengers to go in and we almost could not board the train. When the train stopped at Singapore, all of them rushed out to grab their last meals. Luckily, most of the disgusting bastards and bitches were not taking the train to Tanjong Pagar railway station, hence, we were able to enjoy a better journey home.

Shop at City Square, Johor Bahru

I woke up exceptional early on the freezing Monday morning. After washing up and bathing, it was almost 9.30 AM when we took off from the house. My younger brother, my mum and I boarded bus 75 from Cantonment Link towards Bukit Timah and stopped near Bukit Timah Shopping Centre to transit to bus 170, which kept us waiting for very long. All of the buses arrived, inclusive of another bus 75, before we flagged for the next bus 170.

We stopped at Causeway Checkpoint. The new system allowed us to scan the passport manually and then by placing our thumb on the scanner, we could avoid the long queue with the foreigners. The old bus conductor was very fierce and he was probably trained to do so with all the cheapskate and disorder people around, especially those non-Singaporeans. After re-boarding the bus and moving towards the Malaysian Checkpoint, we had to bear with the long queue to stamp our passport.

Just then, I received an SMS, telling me of the new amendment to the poster again. The date was changed. I was glad that I had not done the previous changes of the logo instructed on last Friday.

We arrived at City Square at around noon, and my younger brother was already late for one and a half hour for his eyes checkup. He was lucky as usual to get into the room immediately without queuing up. My mum made hot Milo for us, which kept our stomach filled.

The nearest restaurant at the basement was Secret Recipe. While we were going up the escalator, I saw a pretty girl holding boxes of chess set made of glass, which was similar to one of my collections.

We had lunch at a restaurant near Mary Brown, which the specialty was Portuguese chicken. The sauce to the noodle was superb and unique, however, the fish was too salty and that the chicken tasted normal. My mum had a bowl of chendol but could not finish it.

We started combing shops like Factory Outlet Shop and Rejected shops for cheap yet good quality stuffs. We even walked around Popular and some gift shops. Ever since buying the short sleeve shirt at Freshbox shop, I only set my eyes on the more stylish type and not just a plain format one. It took me the entire hour to just get a short sleeve shirt costing nearly RM$50, which had surpassed the price of all my brother’s wears.

Anyway, I felt uneasy to spend my mum’s money though she was the one asking me not to go to the money exchanger since she had leftover Malaysian Ringgits from the previous trips. We left at around five PM and were disappointed that there was no train service. We paid RM$2.50 each to get a bus ride directly to Queen Road, but there was this hassle to go down the bus at the Checkpoints.

At the Causeway Checkpoint, while waiting for the bus, a male Malaysian was being stopped by a bus conductor, probably due to cutting queue. He was very frustrated and spitted a couple of times towards the bus. This hooligan made me realize Singapore was a much civilized place to stay in.

The bus went by BKE, followed by PIE and probably took CTE to reach Bugis and I dozed off in the mid of the journey, and it was really fast. We crossed some roads to wait for bus 145 and 80 to proceed home.

Dinner was steamboat again.
