Year 2010 New Year Resolution

Quit being a lecturer
Since more than a year ago, I wanted to leave for hundreds of reasons. It has been accumulating.

Find a stable job
It is time to get a stable job to have a stable income while striving for my future.

Get driving license
Many people are born with silver spoons and they can start getting their license once they reach the age limit; I cannot. Given time, I do not have the money; given the budget, I do not have the time.

Turn sillydumb.com into inspiring site
Life is a learning experience. I live through the hard way, and it will be nice to let people learn something out of finding out my life.

Get SmokeForWhat.com up
This project has halted too long since more than two years ago. This is a little effort I can contribute to the society.

Get sCreative company up
A joint effort proposed by Irwin; something that can push and prove my capability in my desire to work on something major in my life.

Up 10 websites/blogs in total
A little race against Mike; an ambitious goal being set to place myself in a financially stable stage of life.

Get rid of big fish tank
The big bulky tank with two crazy tortoises splashing disgusting water out of from the top, heating up the electricity bill with the big plump and forever-on light, it shall be removed from my tiny packed messy house. It is placed just besides me with the irritating sound of dripping water. This is not my house; it was my father’s house.

Get rid of two birds on ecstasy
Two crazy small gayish parrots chirping in the middle of the night in the darkness have gone over my limit. My elder brother sought no consent before bringing them home; again, leaving them in the living room.

Heal stomach
The Chinese physician says that it is harder for stomach to get healed than other parts of body. I continue to get bloated right after eating. I have to keep going back to replenish my medicine, and avoid spicy and any food that is hard to be digested.

Jog 40 times
I need to keep myself healthy and I need to see more babes at all the beautiful destinations.

Sleep before 1am daily
For more than half of my life I’m destroying myself.

New Server Setup

I pointed my domain name to the new server without completing the uploading of all files, which had caused problems since the changes were applied.

Access to the control panel (Plesk) was lost and I could not do anything else other than logging into FTP using the direct IP address of Mike’s server.

Since the firewall had set restriction, I could not log into my new control panel at work and thus, had to wait until I got home at late night to re-setup the rest of the sub domains.

I have yet to create the database for my other websites.

Ending and Beginning of Webhost

Mike has informed me that he would be terminating the service from his dedicated server’s webhost soon since his website is not making much money anymore; the two-hundred over US dollar web space is too much of a flattery to the low traffic.

Over the past few years, I have been using free services from Ganz, Irwin and Mike, who kindly shared their web space with me. In the end, I use only Mike’s server since it is a dedicated server and that I’m able to use domain masking instead of redirection. I’m also given the privilege of experiencing the settings of the web server.

It is time to try getting my own server, be it a cheap and slower one, I have no other choice.

During setting up period, configuration may cause temporary site offline.

Switched from HTML to PHP

It took me quite long to finally switch my entire website from HTML to PHP due to the programming method.

All the while I was using IFRAME and probably nobody could notice it if he was using Internet Explorer; Firefox lovers had serious problems viewing the website. Occasionally I had also been amending the website’s coding to synchronise with both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and thus, if you had been observing the site carefully, you most likely would have found some small improvements in Firefox’s view for certain features.

Since the scripting method I had been using depended too much on the frame, it was a very tedious progress to switch.

What are actually done?
– Entire site is changed from HTML to PHP
– All coding is amended to suit both Firefox 2.0 and Internet Explorer 6.0
– Internal site structure is improved for easier future update
– Menus and submenus are shifted and improved
– Scripting and presentation for various pages are improved

Shifting to PHP also means that I would be shifting from Blogger to WordPress in near-to-come. Next progress is to edit and update the contents. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, please highlight if there is any error.

From HTML to PHP

I have been working hard to push my personal website from HTML to PHP. Since the current one works with IFRAME, scripting is tedious somehow; too much to be elaborated.

Progress is good and it is almost ready, except that synchronising with blogspot will be another tedious progress since it is an external site. Work shall resume when time permits in case anything goes wrong, there will be ample time to solve it.

Insertion of Extra File by Webhost

For the past few months, I was very irritated by the relocation of my personal homepage on load. On Technorati and Google search, the title “Relocate” was displayed instead of my original scripted title. Since I did not make any changes before that, the problem was unpredictable.

I checked on my domain host to confirm that I did not make any changes within that period of time as well. I made adjustments in the setting of my webhost, to include and exclude certain services but none was helpful enough.

Last week, I took a random check in the webhost directory and found an extra file “at_domains_index.html” among the long list of my HTML files in the root directory. The web server had added in this extra file without informing me.

The crucial thing was that the server was loading that file instead of “index.html”, which I believed it was configured by their administrators; meaning that it should not happen in other webhosts.

This unprofessional work by the webhost could actually cause big lost if it had happened to any money-making sites by causing lost of Google Pagerank.

Blogger Downtime

Blogger has been quite unstable for the past few days. Navigating around the “Dashboard” using Firefox is slower than Internet Explorer at times. It is definitely inconvenient especially if you are running a few blogs. The downtime has also affected the traffic.

The plan to switch over to WordPress has been a dream since years ago. Priority and urge have been battling throughout me.
