One of the main reasons I don’t like to do public commenting on friends’ social media profiles is due to uninvited interruption. Some bees out there are likely to interrupt given any chance if your friend is attractive.
One such example is my conversation with Shujuan in one of her latest Instagram photos. She was telling me that she was lazy to wear contact lens and I teased her that she was just trying to avoid getting more admirers. One of her existing admirers could not maintain. He tagged me in his reply and said he disagreed with my obvious-tease because Shujuan had already mentioned that she was plain lazy.
Stating the obvious won’t help you to impress others.
Anyone with a right mind should see that I was just kidding. Needless to say, her admirer was simply trying to grab attention.
I have too many experiences dealing with attention seekers in the past and I know well one has to be very patient and free in order to reply to such people. In fact, by replying, we are just falling into their, intentional or not, tricks.
Before I did anything, which I didn’t even intend to, the babe had already intercepted to stop us. I was a little irritated not because of the words but the way this guy interrupted.
If any guy wants to grab attention from any of his many dream girls, he better leaves me out of his drama. If he mistakes that I’m in the race with him to get her, I guess I will not be able to do anything because I’m not giving up any friendship for anyone, let alone a clown.
People always welcome more comments and replies on their social media profiles. For now, when I cannot even manage my own time, I will try to stay out of troubles although it will definitely distant me from many friends.

Year 2012 – The Stagnant, The Beginning
Volleyball
I started going back for volleyball with my buddies but things had changed tremendously. I found myself landing in a “foreign place”. My gang was sidelined somehow for we were playing too causally whereas all the competitive players took the main court. I supposed nobody was at fault since everyone had different goals in the sport. However, I was very upset over the distancing of some friends. I did not get to play very often since my team was busy and seldom could make it.
Health
My health was not in good shape. Apart from the long term back injury (frequent aches) from volleyball and feet aching suffered during national service, I had problems with my gums and complexion.
I might have accidentally hit my gum with toothbrush a few times when I was trying to brush my teeth fast. It ended up with a tiny hole where food always got struck inside. I did go to the polyclinic once but the unprofessional doctor turned a blind eye in order to knock off early from his work. Finally I went back and a better doctor assigned me to the National Dental Centre (NDC). I did a minor surgery to borrow some flesh from the upper gum to fill the “hole” before pulling the “skin” up to cover it. The pain lasted for more than a week and I could hardly eat since the donor’s wound was at the centre. Within a week, my weight went down from 54kg to slightly below 50kg. As expected, upon recovery, the gum could only cover the root level and tiny food would still get stuck inside. It was quite a costy surgery that I was not even use my Medisave to pay, which was ridiculous.
On the same consultation day with the better polyclinic doctor, he also assigned me to National Skin Centre (NSC). My main concern was a tiny lump right below my nose, which looked like an acne. I did try to pluck it out with my nails but the wound would stay bloody for some hours before it reinstated. I was told by a friend that it could be due to hardening of pimple that I did not take good care of. While keeping it under observation for months, I also had medication for my acne problems. In the end, I had it extracted, which was a fast surgery.
Financial
My only source of income from Smart Tuition was stagnant and decreased tremendously towards end of the year. With the increase in living expenses, life began to get tough and I started to feel the pinch on my pocket. I was poorest during polytechnic days but at least I did not have the pressure of supporting the family.
Friends
I continued to stray away from friends as everyone progressed with their own lives. Occasionally I went out for volleyball with my gang and other than that, there was very few meet-up with other friends. I did make new friends but none of them was free enough to spend more time with me.
Family
We had a big setback as my younger brother was diagnosed with mild stroke a few days right before Chinese New Year. He had numbness over half of his entire body from head to feet, even though it did not affect his strength. We were all surprised since he was a very disciplined and active guy with no bad habit. All along I thought he would be the most successful guy in my family who could help to take care of my mum if I were to vanish someday.
Photography
My photography journey started after I bought my first decent camera – Sony NEX F3 – a mirrorless camera. I started helping Eng Teck with phototaking of his performance during Sunsilk Academy Fantasia competition. After that, I tried portrait photoshoot and started to learn more. It was a very tough journey for me. I faced countless rejection and many models would “back out” halfway or a day before the shoot after wasting lots of my time. Apart from pre-shoot planning and the actual shooting, filtering and editing the photos robbed me of my time.
Relationship
I had another year of clean sheet with relationship. Other than being busy with my tuition agency work and photography, there was no drive for me to get a girlfriend. I did meet many nice girls but they were never free for me to begin as friends.
Do This or That?
I’m pretty stuck in deciding whether to do this or that first.
I have been busy since secondary school days but as I age, the amount of loads increase rapidly till I have to give up on some. Working on hobbies and jobs are different. It seems that given less time, I become less creative.
This is not life.
Respect Volunteerism
My beautiful friend woke me up early in the morning to offer me to join in the fun to bring the hunks and babes for a free meal. Despite having only two hours of sleep two nights ago, being bitten by the burning sun and spending late night to support my celebrity friend’s performance, I sweet-talked myself to get up. After caressing the toilet bowl twice, I rushed off to meet the volunteers in my weak body.
It was supposed to be a great day working with people with great souls. I knew the least thing I could do was to take photos to capture the beautiful moments, including the unglamorous ones. However, things eventually turned out differently just like how monsters always appeared in fairytale stories right after the sweet introduction.
After bringing the hunks and babes to the temple in the east and securing them to their seats under the big tentage, we were told that we had to wait for the big shot to arrive before serving them their meals. I was deeply disgusted because I realised we were used partly for political drive. There were three rows of tables where fat people were unofficially banned from walking between them. We had initially occupied an empty table in the middle but were made to move our belonging to another table because they wanted to reserve the table for the big shot. None of us complained when we were told to serve all tables, including those hunks and babes who came from elsewhere.
I tried my best to avoid the big shot’s table in case some weird people might ask me to take photos of him, which would tarnish my girlfriend’s dignity or even broke the lens – I did not have money to upgrade to a better girlfriend for now. The big shot simply came over, late, just to shake hands and wait to be served for his food. I thought if anyone who really wanted to come over to appreciate the old hunks and babes who had helped to build up the nation, he or she would have done more. If this big shot had helped out in serving the food like how the volunteers had sweated and exhausted themselves, I would at least respect him a little. It was indeed a rewarding part-time job that would give him over $10k per month. I did pity him for many people were talking behind him during his “glamorous” moments.
The drama to showcase the “kindness” of the big shot was not the most disgusting incident of the day. A lady who seemed to be the overall in-charge of the hunks and babes showed me how ugly mankind could be. Almost all of us did not know which farm she came from but she was first seen grumbling over some barricades, saying nobody would answer if any of the hunks and babes were to bypass them and fall. I was not sure if she was truly concerned for the elderly or simply did not want her head to roll, but her tone was harsh. It was just like walking on a street and a bitch came over to bark you for killing her entire family. As I moved nearer, she turned to me instead and continued to rant like as if a photographer would be so free to invite the old people wander about. Around five minutes of my life was wasted just because I tried too hard to show respect to even creature.
The same lady was ranting at another guy throughout the event. He could be her co-worker or another volunteer she had recruited. When he was trying hard to serve the hunks and babes food, she barked at him to go over to take photos of the big shot. I was extremely disgusted once again because the event was supposed to be organised for the hunks and babes and not the big shot, while our main job should be to ensure that they would not go hungry and be served with great efficiency. Even if USA’s president Barrack Obama was there as a special guest, our focus should be on the hunks and babes who had contributed to our society so much in the past.
The third brainless thing this lady did was to rant at us again at the end of the event after the big shot had left with satisfied stomach. She seemed to want us to take group photos with the big shot for whatever motives she had. It was either she was brainless enough to slip it off her mind or she had whispered to the grass to request us to do that, but she blamed us. One girl was finally pissed off and stepped up to stop her imagination and bring her back to the real world. She was lucky enough that we were inside a temple and I tried hard not to put my friend on the spot. Anyway, none of us was willing to take photos with any big shot. We did voluntary work not for show.
I feel so sad for Singapore due to the existence of such lady who is killing volunteerism. Which volunteer would offer his/her help in future to events that such lady is in charge of? Volunteers are not being paid and the least thing the organiser can do is to show them respect. In fact, even if the lady has paid people to do the work, she should also treat the salaried workers with respect. I wonder if she would feel ashamed if she ever see how I treat the town council’s foreign cleaners. You cannot simply point fingers at anyone if you think the weather is hot.
Lastly, I’m also confused over the need for calling for volunteers for some charity events. If the organisers have such close links to big shots and that they have to suck up to these wealthy and powerful people, they should be able to get many “sponsors” to employ staffs to handle the events. Why are the time of innocent and poor volunteers be needed for such events when they can offer their help to other events that truly lack funding.
I have actually learned a big lesson for the day but the main thing is that I should have tried to find out more details about any voluntary work before agreeing to help, be it taking photos or babysitting the less healthy people.
I love seeing kind souls working hard selfishlessly. The world needs more true love to make more people’s lives beautiful.
Thank you, my dear. Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day, my love. This eight months of love you have showered me with is overwhelming. You have changed my boring life entirely.
I miss the time we have spent together at romantic places like the Fortcanning Park, Gardens By the Bay, Chijmes, Sentosa, West Coast Park, Clarke Quay, Desaru, Paris Ris Park, Esplanade, Bedok Reservoir… and they are all unerasable memories of mine.
I love it that you are willing to accompany me with my family and friends. You appear elegant each time and spice up my days.
You are one in a seven million in Singapore and simply unique. Although you have scars and bruises on your skin but no one can be perfect in this world. It is not about the lust when I caress your body but the special feeling I have for you. You just make me want to do more things together with you. You always satisfy my craving.
Which man would not want to have a soul mate to fight alongside with him towards his goals in life? You add special touches to my achievements and make others proud of me. I know you have your limitation, but it is the effort you have put in that matters the most.
Looks and character may be crucial, but it is the way you treat me that makes me love you so deeply. I love you more than the water in Yellow River and you make my heart bounce higher than the Merlion near Fullerton.
I have been promised stars but no one has even given me a leaf; I have been promised beautiful sight but I do not even see any hair. You keep me accompanied daily without giving empty promises, unlike others who have given excuses to avoid me for months or years.
I just need someone by my side and all I need is you now, my Sony NEX F3.
If anyone is interested in portrait photoshoot, do approach me!
The Happy Farm Story
A farmer owned a small piece of land that he used to rear some cute animals to make a living. During the initial good years, there were around 30 happy animals sharing the small space comfortably in harmony. The farmer managed to make good profits with proper planning and management.
One strange night when lightning strike through his mind, he realized no matter how good he could manage the animals, there was always a limit to the amount of money they could generate for him. He started to import more and different types of animals from the wild into his small piece of land to the count of 53, such that every animal could hardly move. The old animals could not do anything except to continue working, while the new ones were happy enough that they were able to get food and it was a reasonably safe haven compared to living in the wild.
Needless to say, the farmer managed to generate more income from the larger number of upkeep. He was delighted and proud that he was making more money than other farmers. Before he could resolve the problems of the tight space for his animals, he made greater plan to expand his income by getting more animals. He targeted the final number of upkeep to be 70, which was around 32% increment.
However, in order to prevent further SPCA and public outcries regarding the welfare of the animals, the farmer did something while announcing his plan. Firstly, he reduced the targeted number of animals to 69 instead of 70 because 69 sounded much nicer while it was simply one less than his target, which was a brilliant marketing strategy. Secondly, he announced that he would expand his small piece of land by 8% by filling the surrounding swamp, which was an expensive and time-consuming job. Lastly, he claimed that his animals were not actively giving birth and thus had to take in new ones in order for the farm to continue its prosperity to keep his existing animals alive and comfortable.
As the plan proceeded, the strongest animals were able to live comfortably and snatch the better food. A few of the reasonably fit animals were able to make their escape to join their farms instead but the rest of the animals were too helpless to do anything. The animals’ movements were more restricted than ever as the space added on was smaller than the number of new intakes. Birth rate continued to drop due to unhappiness while the new animals were not reproducing as well.
Eventually when the target of 69 was hit, less than one quarter of the animals were his initial cute animals while more than half of the farm’s animals were too old to work.
Finally, the farmer announced his retirement plan, taking away his windfall made throughout the years and leaving the animals to survive on their own.
My Internet Connection is Up
My internet love-hate affairs with M1 has been temporary resolved by using my own router after more than a day.
What I am amazed about is that the technician has told me that their back-end would need three to five days to configure the setting in order for me to connect their modem to my own router or laptop directly. The duration is unacceptable.
This afternoon, I called them for the second time and finally raised my voice to highlight that I would need the internet access in order to work. It was just another five hours later, the lady called me back to tell me everything was resolved. I connected both my router and home phone line to their modem directly and they indeed worked. Now, I would just need to wait for the arrival of their new router.
The amazing thing is that the job that initially requires “three to five days” to be done can actually be shortened to five hours. The difference is simply the tone of my voice – I was very soft on the first day but harsh on the second day (today).
This is a very different approach I have taken as I have always believed to be courteous and nice to others. Sadly, it seems that our society no longer tolerates such virtue.
The Auntie, My Neighbour
My auntie-neighbour brought her young foreign relative over with a laptop and woke me up from my nap. She spoke to me in both Chinese mandarin and dialect. As the elderly was completely IT illiterate, I had problem understanding what they wanted.
After some time, I thought the little girl wanted me to change the setting for her in order to connect to the internet. So, I asked them in Chinese to confirm. The auntie, upon hearing the word “change”, kept telling me they didn’t want to change the hardware. Yet, she kept repeating “change” in dialect.
I explained to them that when I brought my laptop overseas, I needed not change the configuration, which I assumed laptops brought over from other countries, such as Indonesia, needed not any special configuration as well.
I asked the auntie if she had internet connection at home and she answered no. Alas, I guessed the little girl just wanted to tag onto my internet network. I explained to them that my wonderful M1 network was down and would be down for only-pig-knows-how-many-days and thus could not help the little girl.
The auntie simply replied “You don’t know then it’s okay” as usual.
In fact, when her relatives came over, my family was always more than happy to entertain them…
I wasn’t sure of her actual thought but it kind of sounded like I was either stupid or unfriendly.
I think if you don’t know what you really want or can’t explain the problem, you shouldn’t just blame or think lowly of the person who can’t understand what you want.
My latest love letter to M1 on its fan page
My home M1 fiber network is currently down.
After the technician instructed me to do this and that over the phone, she said the Huawei router was faulty. However, the Huawei router was OUT OF STOCK.
She suggested that I could switch to my own router while I could connect my home telephone line to the modem instead of the Huawei router. BUT, activating this would take 3-5 days.
When I questioned how long would the new batch of Huawei router be available, the lady told me she didn’t know.
What am I supposed to do now? Just continue to pay the monthly bill for the disconnected connection and such service while waiting for the new router?
1. Is Huawei router so lousy that it has issues frequently, such that many customers’ routers have to be replaced and thus M1 has, sadly, run out of stock?
2. Does running out of stock for the Huawei router means new M1 subscribers cannot sign up currently as well?
3. IF new subscribers are able to get their Huawei routers, does that mean that M1 values only new subscribers while it ignores existing ones since they are already contracted?
If this issue is not resolved ASAP, I would be seeking advices from IDA, CASE and all popular forums that Singaporeans are using. I would also have discussion with my family over the 4 existing M1 mobile phone plans.
I thank you in advance for replying to me.
