The Week of Flu, Cough and Sore Throat

I survived the week with the sickness. Life was in fact quite easy especially when the sessions at Bukit Batok were cancelled, except for one which I was on MC.

Having no strength to speak up loud in class was a waste when I was given the chance to perform. Basically, I was handling situation totally different from the past since the people I was facing were older and that the contents were actually so little as compared to the past, and partly, I was too exhausted to implement extremely strict discipline.

Thursday’s badminton was cancelled due to my illness, and my gang was busy. There would be a temporary pause for volleyball sessions due to hindrances from a bastard.

Juraimin came into the office in his home clothes on Thursday afternoon and I was shocked by his reply that he was transferred away. I would be missing him as a good colleague who had been offering excellent services. Anyway, it would be good for him at the new place since he probably needed not work for such long hours. Nevertheless, I felt so disgusted that the bastard’s backstabbing had won the battle for now.

Lunch was a torment for everyday in my health condition. I had to give up my daily mixed vegetable rice stall, and instead, went for noodles. It was stressful having to decide on what to eat.

The only chance we got to go out for lunch was on Friday since there was no lesson during afternoon. Jingkun sent his car for repair at Pandan Gardens and then we decided to go to the temporary West Coast Market to fill our stomach but ended up trying food at a coffee shop which Weitat claimed it was ultimately unhygienic. We spent around seven bucks each for the food and drinks, including prawn and a small bowl of soup. It was one of the most awful duck rice I had ever tasted. We took a cab back to office for some work before we left for the early Deepavali “celebration”. I took bus 196 home since I was lazy to stand inside the train and squeeze with all the weird smelling, uncivilised and selfish people. The journey was one of the shortest ever.

Here and There, Stuck

The plan is still uncertain. I’m being indecisive again.

We wanted to leave earlier for the murdered enthusiasm but somehow on Monday, things turned out quite dramatic. Loyalty was involved. A month ago, the email was of a different tone.

Higher managements could never see things as clear as the staffs facing the problems directly. Who promoted the morons up in the first place?

First MC of the Year

I woke up feeling more feverish than before. My body was weak and the joints were aching. The sore throat resided for a while like the day before but the flu did not stop.

I was so terrified of myself whenever I recalled being inside the class, having to move to the back to sneeze badly. When the fluid tried to drip down from nose, it was really gross. I wanted to maintain a clean sheet record but it would certainly hurt my conscience if I were to spread the virus to others.

For the first time since the first day of my work, I went to see a doctor for medical certification. I preferred Chinese physician but it was too bad their certification might not be recognised.

The polyclinic was crowded and I waited for around forty people before I got my queue number. Doctor Sally was busy as usual and when I asked about Doctor Kok Leong, the nurse at the registration counter was stunned and told me that he had been transferred to the headquarter. She checked my record and realised my last visit to the polyclinic was in year 2006, which was more than a year ago.

Surprisingly, I needed not wait as long as the usual two plus hours to get everything done. The doctor, Doctor Mark, assigned to me was from Ireland. I managed to get to see him quite soon with the absence of two to three patients who were not around after their numbers were flashed for minutes. He seemed to be having flu as well. It was a common infection inside my body.

The medicines prescribed were:
Loratadine 10mg Tab
Glycerin Thymol CO Gargle 100ml
Dequalinium CL 0.25mg Loz
Promethazine Codeine Co Linctus
Amoxicillin Cap

As usual, for as far as I could remember, the doctor asked the same question, “Do you need an MC for today?” – How about the next day? The medicine prescribed would definitely cause drowsiness and how could the virus be wiped off within a day? Since I did not want to miss work longer, I did not try my luck.

I spent yesterday lying on the bed, having too much sleep to doze off again.

With Lots of Fluid

It flows like running tap.

Mike’s fortunate-telling is good that the results show that I’m a person who keeps repeating the same mistakes.

I’m not supposed to indulge myself with too much “heaty” food. The huge consumption of them has developed sore throat and flu in my body once again. It can be due to interacting with infected people as well, or at least this does contribute to my sickness.

I want to maintain clean sheet for my attendance at work, but on the other hand, I’m quite afraid that it would be infectious.

Hey! Are You Joking?

One of my recent favourite television shows was “生老病死”, which was shown on channel U on every Monday midnight. The Korean documentary based on researches on health issues was very informative.

From one of the episodes, I learned about the benefits of walking, which was much better than jogging; and in another episode, I realised that laughing loud for 15 minutes would prolong two days of our health. I was not very concern about living longer but a healthier life.

This television program urged me to start off with one of my dreamed blogs, which was meant to gather jokes that I had been forwarding to friends through emails. It would be a place where bored internet surfers could find entertainments in, and hopefully, it could eventually make people laugh.

The title of the new blog was not very SEO (Search Engine Optimization) effective, however, was interesting and unique; and that was the best I could think of when all the straightforward URLs were already taken up.

Lots of time was spent creating the logo and designing the Layout. Alas, I came out with a logo of an apple with smiley face acting cute with tongue sticking out. The last thing was a normal smiley face.

Blogger’s Layout and Niece’s Birthday Party

Last Saturday, a sudden intelligence strike me and I suddenly understood the new Blogger Layout’s coding. I had not heard of any new feature coding for the old Template style and therefore, there was certainly a need to move on to Layout. We had to move on with technologies.

In the late afternoon, I had to put aside my project and accompany my family to my little niece’s birthday party. The location was at Simei and my younger brother decided to take bus instead of the train since he was using concession pass.

We took bus 145 and alighted outside the Central and transited to bus 12. I was ready for the more than one hour journey, took off my spectacle and started dozing by the side of the bus.

We arrived late but were in time for the birthday cake cutting. The ice-cream cake was delicious but was of a little small portion. The food on the table could probably last us for another day. There were chicken wings, satays, fish balls, fish and chicken nuggests, otak, fish cake, eggs, mee hoon, laksa and others.

They had a big dog called Kenneth who wetted my entire hand with his saliva. There were chatting and soon, we switched the television from channel 8 to channel U for my favourite “鹿鼎记”.

At 9.30 PM, we left together with my auntie, cousin and her boyfriend. We walked to Simei MRT and took the opposite direction’s train so that we could get seats on the long journey back to Tanjong Pagar.

Fridays Start at Six AM Again

Having an exhausting evening, sleeping at three AM and waking up at six AM, Friday was a torture.

Thing went on quite smoothly. Jingkun drove us out for lunch again and I started nodding at the back of the car to realise that we were reaching Jurong Point, and then I dozed off again until we were at the car park.

Both Weitat and Jingkun had itchy mouths that they had some small bites before having our lunch. A little walk around to search for watch kept my body weak due to famine and I was probably walking like a zombie. We went to the “Lai Lai” stall and that was my second visit for the small portion of duck meat together with a can of drinks which cost $4.70. I had a chocolate waffle and the chocolate spilled out during one of my bites, which messed up my lips and hands.

I actually planned to leave office earlier than the rest to get a nap first before the night’s event, but I ended up inside the Self Assessment room because of my problem child female. I left together with Daniel and we strolled to the MRT station.

I had a very short nap in the midst of working.

I met up with Sichun at nine PM at Telok Blangah Height’s bus stop and we went to the Sai’s family’s eldest sister’s funeral. All of them were busy and thus, we were the two loners waiting for Jinyang’s arrival, which more than an hour later. Nevertheless, it was a good catch up with Sichun. We had questions in our minds but dared not to ask.

Jinyang arrived late with his girlfriend, Sufen, in cab after taking a tour at Telok Blangah Crescent. I left at around midnight and was glad that I was still able to catch the bus though I had to walk a longer distance home.

The Veins Started Hurting Again

I tended to get sleepier at Bukit Batok. It was probably due to being in a place which I disliked and doing things which I was never interested in.

It was another crazy rush back to office in the afternoon, having to gobble up the food when I was actually granted permission to be late. The lesson was alright for the moment.

Into mid afternoon, more things started occupying my time. Weitat asked me to accompany him down to get some drinks and I got to see Mr Morgaya at the canteen. At first I could not recognise him when he called me and it took me a few seconds to believe his rare appearance. I tried to be a good host to entertain the guest who came over to help out in the big event.

As I got back to the office, trouble arrived with the Gallery2 project. I was not sure if I had caused any bug in the software but I was quite certain that I did only edit some layouts which were probably not crucial. My gang was waiting for me at the hall for badminton and yet I felt uncomfortable to leave the office without the problem solved. Later on, I found out that it was due to the user’s own mistake. It was probably a wrong start to be able to accomplish some of the requirements for changes; it would only lead to more problems for me in future.

The badminton session was alright. I got to team up with Mr Baey and he managed to prove that his skill was superb. However, I only got to play together with Zaki on the third court, and his persistency wiped off my stamina as we did not count the score. After getting a litte rest, Meihoe and I were preparing to play against each other but since Zaki was enthusiastic, I waited outside the court. Meanwhile, Jingkun called me over to play and thus, I lost the opportunity to play with her.

By the end of the day, I almost felt like collapsing. However, Jingkun started setting up the volleyball net and I could not abandon him. I went in search of toilet soon and all the toilets near the office did not have papers. After I got back to the hall, Jingkun, Weitat and Mingli wanted to start the volleyball and I could not refuse anymore. Therefore, I played with my exhausted body and aching right hand, in my weird stomach which I had bear with for almost the entire day. I was totally wasted in the game, causing the lousy results when I could not even serve the ball over.

Into real game, I almost thought I would drag the entire team down but I started to regain my energy speedily and performance was good. If it was not for the muscle aches, I would have done even better.

It was only around three games later, the old injury on the bottom of my feet relapsed and the veins were causing so much hurt that I gave up playing in case I could not get back home. I took a rest by the side until Jingkun stopped playing and he sent Clarence and I to the Jurong East MRT station.

My dinner was cornflake together with expired milk.
