Renewed Domain and Discovery of Marina South Pier

[Tuesday, 20 June, 2007]

Another tough day began ruling over my sleep and only pardoned me at 5am. I managed to renew my personal domain using my new mini debit card, which I hoped to top up more money so that I could use it to purchase other stuffs as well. Three hours later, I woke up for work. Finally, I dropped my warranty cards for the new system into the letter box.

Lunch was at PSA again and I spent lots of time on the content populating. Elgin was trying his luck and pissing everyone more. There were some forum’s requests to be accomplished in the midst, which I had to be diverted away from the team’s work. Overall, I was working too slowly for I could not kick the habit of trying to perfect all my replies. Anyway, I got sleepy when those very boring chores appeared in front of me.

I got to go for jogging again. I was quite disappointed that Thariq did not join us this time. The boss met me at the toilet and he seemed nice to tell me to stay alert on the roads during my run. I was still refraining myself from talking much to him since most people who could achieve till this far were not simple people. Moreover, I doubted his judgement to employ some of the upper management people.

Jogging caused the back of my waist to ache like the previous time. I did manage to run as fast as the previous time but this time I crossed the road when I was at the T-Junction near the club house and proceeded straight. There, I saw the “ocean” mentioned by Kimmy and in fact it was not very far away.

The Marina South Pier located there and the building looked nice with a 24-hours food stall. I was exhausted by then and regretted not drinking enough water throughout the day. I felt weird in my army’s sleeveless shirt with PJC’s short and started walking instead. I climbed up to the sky gallery where tourists were taking pictures. Then, I started jogging back to join the rest at the bus-stop opposite the club house. It was not long before we set off and Kimmy impressed me by her constant speed and she almost could catch up with me. Since she was in a rush, she left without waiting for the rest. It took quite long time for everyone to gather together and walk back to the office.

My department’s people were as hardworking as usual and were still around. Teng Teng started working and Wei Yeow stayed behind to accompany her. I left the office at around 8pm.

I tried to work and do as much things as I could but eventually dozed off twice.

Clearing of Links

Some people say being too selfless is also being selfish and unkind to oneself, but it does not cost much to me as long as my friends are worth it.

I have been very magnanimous about friends not linking their blogs back to mine. I do not expect every friend to be concern about me even when I bother to even add their addresses into my Bloglines account so that I can be notified of their new updates.

From many aspects, I know clearly who are really concerned about me and who are simply hi-bye friends.

The idea of having many links from people to show popularity is not what I really seek for; it is the consistency of readers who really admire my essays or want to know more about my life.

But this day when someone threatens to unlink me, I feel so sick suddenly. If I care so much, I would have bothered to go around asking all my friends to link me back.

A disappointing afternoon makes me remove all the dead links and links for people who do not seem to bother about me. My links list is thereafter shorter and neater.

Anyway, for those who use http://sillydumb.net.tf to enter my website, please change it to http://sillydumb.com instead. And for those who link to http://sillydumb.blogspot.com, please note that if one day it is gone, http://sillydumb.com will be still around.

Valentine’s Present

Sorry for not able to update my main site for so long. I have been caught between many websites and other work.
A year ago, I presented “Unforeseen”, which is a very short love story. For this shitty Valentines’ Day, I shall present to you the preview of my latest story – Lonestar (Can be found in “My Arts”).
In fact I have been working on it for more than a year but I’m forced to set it aside for other work. It is a self thought story, mixed with some true experience of my past. Title and contents are subjected to change any time.
Please give me some feedbacks so that I know if I’m on the right track.

Server Was Down

If you were trying to access all my websites this morning after midnight, it was down definitely. I was not sure when did it start but after 4am was back to square.
Of course, if you access my blog directly at http://sillydumb.blogspot.com, it will work eventually. However, it will take very long time for trying to access the files from Mike’s server before it gives up. As mentioned in my main site’s “About Me > Ask Me!” page, I still prefer people to link me directly at http://sillydumb.com because even I do not know when I will ever change my blog’s host.
Anyway, the problem with Mike’s server is he has a script installed which boosts the loading speed but however, requires too much system memory, which has caused the crashing of server every few weeks if he does not do anything. I am not sure if he is going to remove the script which takes up the memory.
This reminds me of my “Scheduled Downtime” image. I have asked Da Zhang to help me with it and I do not know when it will be completed for he has no holidays. After that, I will grow my skin thick and approach someone experienced with colouring using Photoshop.

A Closer Contact with PHP

I have finally done a Contact Me page for my website using PHP. You do not need to log into your email account with that, in order to contact me.
Of course, due to the lack of practise, I had almost forgotten about how to even do a simple form using HTML. With some distractions from the television and help seekers, I took very long time to do it.
From yesterday afternoon till today’s very early morning, I had been trying my best to finish it. With some JavaScript form validation, I finally started into the actual PHP. Help from the second hand PHP book was very appreciated.
I got so excited upon success and was very confident that I could further my skill with all the basic PHP commands and strings.
Hereby, I have this request for my friends to give me testimonials through the Contact Me (gone with the wind!) page; the testimonials are for my own website and I will put up once I have a number of them but I might not include the name of the sender. Please give constructive feedback and use proper English. By the way, please identify yourself properly.

Site Editing Spree

[Thursday, 16 November, 2006]

I was trying hard to push myself and managed to make some progress in editing website. As it was early in the morning and time for some supper, I agreed to take the breads after my mum’s classical nagging.

I succeeded in moving the “FAQ” menu into “About Me” as a submenu. Then I renamed it into “Ask Me!”. The challenge was to present the eight pages section into a single page and I did it in an expandable list style to make it neat. The scripting was simple at first but the thrill of programmer came soon when bugs visited.

Then, I shifted the Links section down to set them as main menu. It was an easy job since I still kept the old copies. At around 3.30am my nightmare of not able to doze off came again. The tossing around on bed was really time-wasting.

I woke up late again. However, it was another disciplined day when I moved on to my work immediately.

I renamed the Links accordingly to types of users and did some touch up on the navigation. Next was disappointment to realise there were minor bugs all over the index page. Halfway through rectifying it, the process was halted.

Although I had fixed all the bugs, there were more things to be accomplished.

New Guestbook

I have been ignoring my Guestbook since I have not found one really good one yet.
For so many years, without changing, I keep to HTMLgears’ service from Lycos. I know the loading speed to view or sign it is hell slow but since nobody has complaint to me, I leave it alone.
Recently there have been excess spamming on the guestbook, though does not disrupt the display since I have to approve them before they will be shown up; however, the emails I have been receiving are getting annoying.
I can stop it from emailing me but I still have to housekeep the guestbook initially; I have to log in and find those spam entries and delete them. Alas, I decide to change the Guestbook to a new one which is hosted by my own server and actually has been up for a few months ago; I am always too busy to design it.
And for now, I shall just leave the colours and fonts as they are.
Sign the Guestbook (gone with the wind!) for me!
