Free Food and the Christmas Present

[Saturday, 23 December, 2006]

I was waked up early by some free food. My neighbour told my mum about the reopening of the PosBank Tanjong Pagar branch and then my younger brother and I were waked up after she finished bathing. I did not want them to takeaway for me and thus I followed them down instead.

By the time we got there, the crowd had already dispersed and there was no track of food. I felt quite relieved somehow.

We went to the market instead and had nasi lemak for breakfast. I had to foot the bill for my elder brother was not there and I could not let my younger brother do it. I really felt so heavy on my shoulder. Money had being such a big issue for me. It was so pathetic for I was having no income for so many months already and mostly thank to the property agent job.

Back at home, I dozed off quite soon and into afternoon, I started worrying for Vivi’s Christmas present. Even though she claimed that she did not need one as she knew how broke I was, I knew clearly she was such a dreamer who would fantasize for a great Christmas.

All the burdens were driving me so mad that sometimes I really wished I could just bang my head on the wall and end all the worries. But for this I must admit my stupidity because I could not do it like others who would simply enjoy their lives without thinking for others.

Seriously I wonder why some people who have wealthy parents can waste so much money without thinking of what kind harsh lifestyle many others are living in; the worst case is when people who live in poor families try to live wealthy men’s lives.

For me, I know my own status and situation well that I will live a poor man’s life until I get enough money to finance my younger brother through the university, allow my mum to retire, get my own house and finally further my own studies. I do not know how long I will take, for I am not a great man and never have the ability to command through my softness. However, I will try to grow stronger each day.

Anyway, the day went on with me arranging a time with Jielin to meet up at Far East Plaza. She suggested 6pm but I realised I could not make it and delayed it for fifteen minutes. I cut through the crowds in very “stylo” pace, feeling so great that my left leg was able to do the job. I met John, Khong Wee and Gin Seng on the way and later realised my timing was just nice. I gave her a call when she was only at Great World City’s bus-stop and even doubted it was already the time we were supposed to meet up.

I was waiting there like a fool but was able to see countless babes. After she arrived in her ugly spectacle, she did her job well by suggesting items to buy. I was considering a cap but felt it was stupid since I did not like Vivi to wear any. So, I stick to my initial plan to get her a bag. Then, I realised I ought to be knocked to some sense for spending so much on her again when I was so broke. I hated myself.

I walked Jielin to the bus-stop and accompanied her till her bus came. Then, I chose to take bus 167 even though I knew well the road would be jammed badly during the festival. Sadly, I could not get a good view of the sceneries and decoration for I was sitting at the centre of the last row of seats.

A Sudden Delight

[Friday, 22 December, 2006]

This was a very special day and I was so happy to receive news of two buyers interested in the flat. I thought my first even client would be someone who would be my very close friend.

I thought in a few days’ time I would eventually clinch my first flat and would eventually mature to a higher level of experience. I saw lights along the path.

I had plans for the next few days and especially the upcoming chalet. I thought I would get started the beginning of next year with Kelly’s tactics.

Things often do not go the way as planned.

First Setback

When I thought everything was almost fixed and that I would be having a few days of holidays until New Year, I woke up with disappointments.

Andrew and Jessica replied me negative about the flat. I was not sure what was wrong but they seemed to be so interested in it last week. However, since the night before I messaged them, they did not reply immediately, I could sense their lack of interest already.

I got last Saturday’s straits times from my neighbour and the auntie told me their adopted dog had passed away last Saturday. Things were not going right this day. Kelly continued to help Mingfa and I do all the shit. After I received a call from an agent, I realised Kelly had started messaging the agents found on the newspapers. Just when I was trying to alias with her which numbers I should message, I realised my neighbour had given me the wrong portion of Classified advertisement.

I would not have felt so moody if Josephine did not give the ring that her client had wanted to pay for the deposit last week. I hated to repeat the process again and in a sorrier state.

Cockster Agent, Wallet and Carls Junior

[Thursday, 21 December, 2006]

After a few days of revisiting the Haig Road flat, I finally had an unpleasant experience. Kelly and I made our way down specially for this agent called Nadine who claimed that she would be late as her buyer was not on time.

Meanwhile, Kelly took me up to the top of the flat to “advertise”. We met a china girl on the lift and we passed by her door when she had changed into her short shorts; she looked so charming despite her face was not that pretty. This was one of the good things about walking around Singapore.

Anyway, suddenly Nadine called I realised she had mistaken Haig Road as part of Beach Road. The appointment was cancelled. Luckily for Mingfa, he was involved in the Zhenghua Secondary’s volleyball invitational match and he did not make the wasted trip down.

I walked alone to Paya Lebar MRT and waited at Outram Park. Then I realised Vivi had not even stepped out of her house. The usual waiting was quite awkward for I was so afraid that I would arouse the suspicious of the SMRT staff. I felt like sitting down somewhere but the place seemed too high class for anyone to do that.

When she finally arrived, we proceeded to Jurong Point. The purpose of this trip was to retrieve her lost wallet. It was a great lost for there were our neoprints inside, together with some thirty dollars cash and some of her cards such as Ez-link card.

This was not the first time and I was not surprised at all since she had been carelessly neglecting her stuffs like mobile phone so much. However, the point that the guy had tried so hard to get her number to contact her directly instead of going to the police made me so worried. I was so worried that I insisted to go down together with her.

We went to the KFC right away and I began to feel weird. Then, she finally told me the guy who called her was the manager of the KFC branch; she only told me that she could collect her wallet anytime. My worries eased off. She was so rejoiced after retrieving it back but within minutes, she left it on my hands.

We went to the 7-11 store for I was so thirsty. She suddenly became so sensible that she wanted to share the drinks with me to cut down on expense. She chose an expensive chocolate drinks and even though I knew it would not drench my thirst, I decided to please her and satisfy my urge for chocolate.

We went to Plaza Singapura to meet up with Jenrice. This time round, we managed to get to the basement directly from the underground. Then, we found her at the Spotlight before going to look for drum sticks and then down to Carls Junior.

Eating messily

My cute sister

I bought a set of whatever chicken meal and it cost over ten bucks and I was shocked for I always thought it was only seven plus. Then, I tried to peel the big burger apart but it became so disgusting that Vivi decided to get herself one instead. I regretted it so much for I still preferred the price, especially the taste of burgers in KFC or MacDonald’s.

A Japanese girl at the other side of the glass kept screaming and trying to get our attention. I put two fries into my mouth while playing with her and she started to imitate me; luckily her mum did not see me doing that.

After the dinner, we left the place and I sent Vivi home by bus 124. It was such a rare day that I could finally go out with her.

Would you open your windows for Santa?

Newspaper article?

Do you believe in Santa Claus?

Do people still leave some big socks near their beds for Santa’s presents? If not, why are they still dreaming of the arrival of Santa?

In countries such as Singapore where there are many night owls, do you think Santa is able to deliver every present at night without being discovered?

Santa can of course keep low profile by not using his reindeers and travel by means of cycling in home clothes but one day if he ever slims down, would you recognise him anymore?

About 80% of Singaporeans stay in flats and even for those private properties there is no chimney; how is Mr Santa going to enter your house? Would you open your windows for him?

If you are not going to wake up after repeated calls, Santa is going off.

Merry Christmas

To whoever has been reading my blog, thanks and Merry Christmas!

My life has been so dull nowadays and it takes more than concern and determination to want to find out about it. However, there will be no reward for your persistence into reading up.

There is always remorse within my inner heart that I am not able to organise outings for the past few months. The problems with my operated leg together with money issue strike my plans. Moreover, some friends are unable to swim or cycle, which make organising of gatherings tougher for I am more interested in get-together with physical activities.

Now, with the endless rain and my job, I am very ashamed to announce that I shall put on hold of the plans for the time being. I cannot probably be organising something and suddenly back out when client calls me. Perhaps, someone should just step forward and organise something for the rest and I would try my best to get involved.

Met up with Josephine

[Wednesday, 20 December, 2006]

Early in the morning, I almost could not wake up. I was supposed to meet Kelly at 10am and was intending to go even earlier to do some research.

I was not much earlier after dozing off again. There was a crowd at the computer and I waited for it to subside a bit before going to my favourite computer. Kelly arrived later and we started some research. She went to settle for the flat’s valuation and even helped us to pay for it first. We ended the first half of the day before noon.

I had a little nap before being waked up by calls again.

Nice scenery

And me!

Later on, we met up at the flat in the afternoon. Both Mingfa and Kelly were late. This time, the agent was Josephine who was Kelly’s classmate in the Ceha course, which things easier. Furthermore, her client wanted to buy the house for rental as he would be out of Singapore.

I did the talking at first but Kelly had to take over halfway as my skill was not good enough. Both Josephine and her client were very satisfied with the flat except that they wanted to wait for valuation.

After that, Mingfa and I went to the Punggol nasi lemak stall at Tanjong Katong Road again and Kelly joined us later. We had some drinks and chats before we departed. Kelly waited for us to board our buses before she went home in her bike.
