New site – Birthday 2006

[Tuesday, 10 October, 2006]

After almost a week of preparation, my new website is finally out.

http://sillydumb.com/birthday2006 is dedicated to provide information regarding my year 2006 birthday chalet.

The design is more formal than my other websites.

The uniqueness is the banner. The background consists of pictures taken during outings with my volleyball buddies and campmates, which are the two main groups of friends I am inviting. The foreground consists of pictures of me smiling and one which was taken with Vivi.

I took around two days to come out with the draft information with the help of Gilbert, Ou Xiang and Peh. There were distractions the days after which had slowed down the progress of the website building, but I managed to fill in for the time loss by working through the night for a couple of days.

It was stalled over the weekends when I needed to call the resort for some information; perhaps, I should have just given it a try to call them.

Finally, with Gilbert’s lenient grading and kind words, I was more confident about the site. However, when there was just minor information to be clarified online, my internet connection was down on the day I was supposed to proudly announce it.

I should have completed this simple website much earlier.

Life without internet

[Monday, 09 October, 2006]

As I was downloading latest version of NVIDIA graphics card driver, the process stopped upon six minutes to completion. At the same time, I had finished a blog entry and was waiting for Blogger site to load. It was around three plus in the early morning and later, I gave up since the internet connection seemed helpless.

Hours later, after I caught a little sleep, went for my medical appointment and finally returned, I had totally forgotten about the internet connection problem. It did not bother me at first since I was able to connect and check my emails like usual until minutes later, it died on me again.

This waiting was horrible. I did try shutting down the computers and modem, and after some time switching them on again. It did work for the past but not this time round.

It bothered me tremendously since I was on the verge to launch my new site which required a minor edition and information from the internet. I was so eager to spread it while inviting my guests for the birthday chalet since it provided more than sufficient information and help that I needed.

Gilbert had witnessed the site and I was absolutely delighted to hear him sing compliments; his standard had been high and all my websites were not even up to borderline marks. Of course, I had some doubts that he was trying to not stress me so much like usual but there was this possibility that he adopted only formal looking websites.

I had a few blog entries to work on but the internet was pulling me away from the monitor; I was restless to fight and eventually dozed off in front of the television. Vivi woke me up soon and then the second time just minutes after.

I got up to bath and play game since I was unable to doze off again. Romance of the three kingdoms series three kept me occupied until my elder brother returned. Near midnight, internet connection resumed.

He told me he had only updated the version of the router. It could be new updates on the Max-Online side that the router’s software was incompatible and thus required updating.

Normal life resumed then. Life without internet connection was hell for a cripple.

Catering Food for Chalet

[Monday, 09 October, 2006]

My mum can never hear my words when she wants what she wants.

She keeps telling me about catering buffet dinner for my chalet when I repeatedly say it will be much more expensive. She even notes down a contact number so that she can go and ask the price which is definitely a gigantic price. The company will definitely charge not just the cost for ingredients but also the services for the cooks and delivery and setting up staffs.

I do not have so much to spare when I am not even receiving any pay.

Apart from the money, I guess catering will definitely give a different feeling which I miss so much. All the barbecuing and waiting for food will be much more fun than the overspent of money.

I must earn lots of money when my leg recovers.

Slow recovery

As my mum changed the dressing for me again, there was discharge as usual after more than two weeks from the operated date.

I tried to test how well the progress of my recovery was and did a little hop which hurt my left calf so badly. Later, as I was getting up from the mattress, I forget about my injury and used my left leg to start off; there was a pull at the operated part again.

Otherwise, the blood clots are vanishing soon and there is no swell. My right foot can now exceed the left foot more than five centimetres while limping and that shows I can bend my left ankle more.

The speed of recovery is somehow too slow for a hyperactive man.

The haze and my poor health

[Saturday, 07 October, 2006]

The haze was so bad that when I woke up I felt uncomfortable. My eyes were tired and I started to cough a little. There was also irritation in my nose.

I went near the windows to see magnificent view of the haze. The buildings far away were blurred. There was also smell of smoke.

These days I was hiding at home to recuperate from my operation and yet the haze had been threatening me so much. I wondered what would happen if I was out there.

I had allergic nose. Save me!

Not again, please

I can be helpful but I am not a person who can bear with it if you repeatedly come back for the same problem.

If you are feeling cold, I will ask you to use a blanket; but if you return twice or thrice in future, do you expect me to repeat my words when you certainly know the solution?

Some words when repeated are meaningless and disgusting to me.

And I am afraid I can be affected easily by moodiness. Please do not expect too much from me.

First round of labelling blog entries

If you have noticed about my blog entries, I have added “labels” on the bottom of each post. The label is a new feature of Blogger Beta, which is similar as some blog providers’ “tags” feature. It is to classify the blog entries into categories for convenience visitors.

I have spent many nights looking through my entire blog to do it. Since I have only started off with some label names in mind, I realise the need for other label names after reading through all the entries. There would be a second round of adding of labels and making of amendments when I am free.

However, I realise labels with many entries would not display all of them. This is a big setback ever since I have been spending so much time on the adding of labels; however, if you click on the label, it would still lead you to some entries of the same topic.

There is also a problem with displaying of pictures when the list is very long. If such problem occurs, you may want to click the permalink of that particular entry and you can probably see the whole entry and attached pictures.

Do try the labels.

Planning for the chalet

[Thursday, 06 October, 2006]

I hesitated for a couple of days before deciding not to go to Shep’s dad’s wake. The continuous reliance on my right leg to walk had injured the heel. The previous week’s journey to Choa Chu Kang had also warned me not to travel long distance again for the moment. Lastly, I did not want my mum to worry about me again.

I heard a few comments that some friends were not that close to Shep and it was actually weird to go to the wake; I guessed “to each, his own” and I should respect their thinking. But to me, even when I was not working directly at that office, Shep was somehow one of the closest people to me in camp.

The day was spent fruitfully gathering information for my chalet. Next step was to construct a website before letting my friends know about it; of course those who frequent my website would have known about it already.

I dozed off in the late afternoon, felt so wrecked again. Then, I happened to see my personal advisor, Gilbert, online. He gave me great assistance in rectifying all the faults in the draft contents of my new website. We also chatted over the phone to discuss a bit about photography and to further improve my project as well.

Vivi was glad to see my enthusiasm in the chalet; I knew well since things had to be done, just do it to the best, at least within own best abilities.
