Finally out with Vivi

It had been so long since I last went out with Vivi. Due to my operation done during September, I had been staying at home until last month, time caught up with her. And then, in order to plead her parents to allow her to go to my chalet, she stayed home for more than a week; she could not stay overnight though.

During this period, there were only house visits from her. Although I was able to save a lot of money, staying at home was dull; we should have strike a balanced.

This evening she wanted to get a FBT shorts and a pair of slippers, and we went to Queensway Shopping Centre together. Though it was not very long duration, it was a gift after all to be able to go out with her.

The black FBT shorts were finally stocked up for months ago we could not find any in the entire shopping centre.

This night, we had dinner at MacDonald’s again; the food court was not even in my consideration list.

We could not get her slippers because her mum had forbidden her to get those normal ones which there was a stripe in between the big toe and second toe; her mum said it would make her legs look uglier. That sounded weird to me but I could not do anything.

Finally, I got to send her home by bus 61 and actually I was quite cautious about my ezlink card’s value.

Need an USB Port

[Tuesday, 07 November, 2006]

The current computer I am using is an old one which my elder brother fixed it up years ago with a few old computers. As the PCI to USB card was spoilt, he did not fix any for me.

So, I am perhaps one of the weirdoes who use a computer without a USB port. I am not able to connect to any printer, scanner, camera and worst of all, webcam.

I had asked Ah Boon to dig #1-14 for the card but he could not find any; we used to have so many unwanted CPUs there with all the cards ready to be thrown away but I did not notice that the CPU I was using was missing that.

I passed by the Cantonment Complex at the opposite shophouses and saw a CPU lying down there. It seemed to be abandoned by that shop’s owner, still looking fine though I only needed the PCI to USB card.

I continued on my journey home, thinking I would just go back at later hours. I discussed about it with Edgar, who urged me to go back immediately to take it. I told him that was a remote place especially at night and probably no one would take it. However, I was really excited about it and with Edgar’s persuasion, I decided to go back immediately.

Unfortunately, in half an hour’s time, the CPU was gone.

I can get the PCI to USB card at less than fifty bucks. It is not a good idea since I should not be wasting anymore money and that it is not worth the price; I could have just go for a new CPU instead since mine is so fragile with all the loose parts.

The main point, however, is not about money. The card is quite redundant and so many CPUs are thrown away everyday and we should really recycle; unless I need a USB2 port.

Someone with an old and unwanted computer, please give it to me!

File Naming Mistake

For Tze Siang’s copy of my birthday photos, each photo should be named beginning with “20061104”, but I named them with “20061103” instead because my camera’s copies started on 3rd November instead of 4th November.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I have renamed them correctly and replaced the older zipped file. You may want to download the second copy again.

Anyway, Chua’s copy is up too; do get them from me though the total size is only 4.04mb.

Please Rate the Party’s Food

At a range of from 1 to 10, 1 is lousiest and 10 is greatest, put “0” for food which you did not try, please rate the following food…

1. Fried Rice
2. Fried Mee Hoon
3. Chicken Meat (Teriyaki chicken sauce)
4. Chicken wings (Oyster sauce)
5. Satays
6. Curry Puff
7. Birthday Cake

Feel free to give any comment about the food.

About Distribution of Photographs

I always believe in sharing good things but not at the risk of them getting into the dirty hands of black sheep in the internet.

The photographs taken during outings or events are fondable memories of everyone’s life and thus I have to share them with friends who are involved. I do not upload the link to retrieve the zipped files directly at my website or Friendster bulletin in order to safeguard the privacy of the participants.

Please always message me to get the photos a couple of days later if you have gone for the outing because I cannot remember clearly who I have distributed them to; I might take a few days to upload the photos and rename them neatly.

Another point to take note of is that since I will upload the whole album together for all the participants, please do not circulate photos of other people to other friends; you will not wish your own photo to land in other people’s hands.

Anyway, if you do not want your own photos to land in other websites after you upload to Friendster or your blog, you are advised to add water benchmark (copyright text) to each photo before uploading it. There are too many black sheep in the internet world where faces are not shown.

Lastly, if you have taken a photo together with me, please upload into Friendster and your blog!

First Day of the Chalet

[Friday, 03 November, 2006]

In the first afternoon, there were only Xiangxin and my mum to accompany me. I started setting up power extension bars and multi-plug, and then boiled up the water. My mum and Xiangxin began with filling up the plastic water bags with water, tied up and put into the fridge. Since the quality of the plastic and attached strings were not good, there were leakage in some.

Ice bags

When everything had settled down, Xiangxin went for a swim but I was too lazy to join him. Lying down on the bed besides my snoring mum, I dozed off only for a few seconds in front of the television set.

Xiangxin was back later to join me in watching the shows. It was until seven plus, we waited for Vivi to come over to bring our food. We ordered three fillet-o-fish meals but she only bought the burgers; at least I was glad that she was able to find her way till Downtown East’s bus-stop.

The first comer was Sem Chi who came empty stomach. I started to reflect and worry over if it was my lack of instruction; I only stated there was barbecue on the second day and I did not instruct everyone to eat first before dropping by on the first night. Anyway, he left for Downtown East for his dinner.

Next came Wenhao, who had wasted a dollar when he mistook my chalet was at Downtown East. Anyway, suddenly I was quite shocked that I had neglected this point that most of my NS friends of his batch were not coming on the first night anymore; he would not be so familiar with the rest of the people.

However, it was a rare chance that we got to meet. He was one of the best guys (inclusive of Sam and James) in camp who were not from my department. I had tried to call him out for outings but he was never free. I accompanied him to Downtown East to meet up with Sem Chi to have his dinner at around eight.

I got more updates from Wenhao and Sem Chi about their current working lives; it was a good catch up. Finally, Edgar came after a long time as the bus 354 played him; his hair was in a mess. I was worried about Vivi at the same time since she had to leave at around ten.

She messaged me to question why the dinner was so long and I felt guilty at the same time, but could not hurry them since Edgar had just arrived to his dinner.

Edgar

After we got back to catch the last episode of the “An Enchanted Life”, I was glad to know that Vivi could stay till midnight before her dad came over to fetch her. Xiangxin was keeping my mum accompanied all the while, playing cards with her.

Wenhao left at around ten. Sem Chi started a long chat over phone for hours and I believed he was chatting with a girl. Vivi’s dad called later at ten plus, which spoilt the fun; she was supposed to stay throughout the three days but her parents changed idea just a day before the chalet and this time, her dad failed to keep the promise of letting her stay till midnight.

As my younger brother arrived at the MRT station, I set off to fetch him with Edgar. Both the shuttle bus and bus 354 services had ended and he had to walk all the way to the chalet. Edgar and I strolled towards the MRT station to meet up with my brother.

After we caught up with each other, Vivi called and only then I realised it was midnight already. She was the first to wish me happy birthday, followed by Eunice and Ruoci’s SMSes. It was also the second year which Ruoci and I did not celebrate our birthdays together.

Upon reaching the resort, I was surprised to see Ivan and Fredrick together. This was a big surprise since Ivan had told me earlier that he was not coming that night and would be coming earlier the next day. Since there was this commander evening event in camp, which ended so late, I was taken in by him.

Anqi dropped by as she was having a camp in the same resort, working as an instructor. The guys thought she was pretty. She left soon though. Then, Kailin finally arrived with chicken wings and she waited long enough for Anqi to return and chill up. She left again after some time. Kailin had to return the car since her brother needed it and thus she did not stay as well.

The night was quite boring. Fredrick complained about his hunger to Ivan but he did not want to eat the chicken wing. He wanted to go to MacDonald’s but the rest were lazy to walk over. We did not stay up too late since Vivi had promised to come early at seven in the morning, which was around four hours later.

Setting Off For Chalet

[Friday, 03 November, 2006]

My mum arrived home late after work. We started preparing the food very early in the morning. Since we could not get chicken breast meat, the replacements, chicken legs, were much tougher to handle. My mum had to chop off the yellowish parts, which was the vein or muscle and it was very tedious job; she also sliced each piece small and thin so that it was faster to barbecue. Next were chicken wings, which she chopped them into two pieces for the same purpose.

After washing up the big pail, I helped her to spilt the chicken wings such that they were easier to be chopped. Later on, I also contributed in marinating the chickens. My mum was asking me to go to sleep first but it was just too unfilial to do it when she was staying up just to help me settle the stuffs.

It was the first time I handled uncooked chicken and marinated them. I went to bed at 6am in the morning, whereas my mum should be sleeping a while later.

I was waked up at ten by Tze Khit who suddenly told me he was able to get his dad’s car; I jumped out of the bed in delights.

The initial plan was to go by cab as all car owners were not free. I had entrusted the help of Xiangxin (XX Liang) and together with my mum, we were going to carry everything. I was not very sure if we could manage to do it because my mum was weak and my left leg had not recovered fully.

My beloved Xiangxin arrived at TG Pagar MRT and I brought him over to see my messy house. He was browsing through my computer and luckily he could not find my porn videos.

Later on, Tze Khit was smart enough to find my house. He drove over straight from Nanyang Polytechnic after school and came specially to pick us up in his illness. He alone could carry at least two persons’ loads and thus we managed to bring everything down at one shot.

I guided him to ECP even though he could have done it by himself somehow. The street directory in his car was very old version and it was difficult to navigate around with all the new buildings in Singapore since ten years ago. However, we managed to find our way to my mum’s friend’s house and pass the food to her.

Checking in to the resort was problematic. The system to insert cash card was quite far away from the road and luckily Tze Khit’s hand was long enough after stretching out from the windows; I saw other visitors having to go out of the cars or at least reverse and stop the cars nearer.

I went to check in first while Tze Khit, XX Liang and my mum moved the stuffs to the door of my chalet unit. Then, a big problem aroused when the attendant claimed that I could not use my mum’s NTUC membership card but luckily my mum was around and I got her over to transfer the ownership of the chalet to her. We spent quite some time at the lobby’s counter.

Tze Khit went home straight without any delay, whereas Xiangxin stayed to entertain us. Both of them were great friends of mine.
