Coca Restaurant and Dusty Event

Friday could be a relaxing day but somehow it turned out differently.

I woke up quite early but went off to bed again until afternoon. Lunch was plain mee hoon with sausage which almost choked me. Just as I was working with my websites, Mingfa called to inform me of the lunch at Orchard.

Since the deadline of submitting the SAF G50 form was near and I did not want anything wrong (inclusive of fine) to happen, I quickly continued with filling up the ultimate troublesome form. I actually received it around two weeks ago but the dread of the tedious fact finding job stalled time and hence, it was left incomplete till date. In fact, I had already completed half of it in the previous sessions of my hard work, but still, it took me very long to surf the internet to check for addresses of my ex companies and also, to find out Mingfa’s Chinese name in order to complete everything. I even had to wait for my mum to search for documentation of her work place address.

I was late for the meeting as expected. I joined them at Takashimaya and Mingfa came over to fetch me near the Kinokuniya book store to Coca. It was my first visit to this high class steamboat buffet restaurant. The ingredients were of course great and especially the service; it was probably because of the very empty tables on a weekday afternoon.

Due to the fact that I had just taken my meal not long ago, I could not input too much food into my filled stomach. I was not a fan of buffet because I hated having to gobble food into my stomach, especially nice food, just to make sure the price paid was worth it. I did not go down specially for a free expensive treat, but for the sake of gathering. Indeed it was a good choice that I had made to join them because of all the laughers. We had this extra service of eating prawns with peeled shell, proudly sponsored by Mingli. The meal cost Weitat a big bomb, beyond anyone’s imagination.

I was not in favour of dining in such good restaurant since we had only started a little into working lives and most of us were going to further studies soon or near future. My concept of handling money differed from most people as they thought it was okay to pamper ourselves once in a while. Saving for the rainy days was what great men would do, instead of having to borrow money from friends in future, which would cause impact on the friends’ plans.

It was not my money but I was the only one who felt the ache instead of the payer.

The glass dropped

Mingli left for her friend’s surprise birthday party. Mingfa, Weitat and Jingkun accompanied me to Far East Plaza to visit my girlfriend who was one of the celebrity guests at the Dusty’s shop opening. The setting up was a disaster due to the cute mushroom head waiter. Someone could have banged into him that he dropped the glass while serving the drinks. Just as we were joking that he would be hiding himself somewhere, he made a second brave attempt to continue with his job and a second glass later fell and wetted a few of the guests who reached there earlier. We were bad but it was difficult to resist such entertainment.

Li Zhi Yi and Joanne Peh

At the start, my rechargeable batteries died off me and they really pissed me off that I wanted to get new ones badly since I could not afford to miss any shot. However, I was sick of the slow Olympus C-750 camera and yet I could not afford to inject my fund into a DSLR camera which I had pinned so hard for; a normal camera could no longer satisfy my photography craze.

My dear friends stayed behind to accompany me throughout the event. It would be great if my tag-team partner Sherie was around.

After the event was over, we went down to the “Sweet Talk” shop to get some drinks. The banana milkshake was very thirst drenching and it kept me freezing on the bus, which somehow make me regret buying.

I did not take dinner again for the second consecutive night.

Sleep and Volleyball

I committed the same mistake before playing volleyball again, which was to have extreme lack of sleep. Due to time constraint and mostly, distractions, I had less than four hours of rest for two days and large scale of my brain cells were massacred.

This Thursday, I had a tough time drawing the keys from the administration office because the usual staffs were on leave and the present ones thought I looked more like a student. Anyway, Weitat was so hardworking that he started setting up the net upon going in and I joined him before dropping on the gym mat. This time, I had the longest uninterrupted sleep ever inside the hall. Mingfa and Weitat accidentally landed the ball on me once and then Ruoci woke me up finally to get ready for the game.

My brain was numb and reaction was slower than usual. My movements were very restricted by my tensed body and my hands did not follow commands. I made my first embarrassment ever in my volleyball career of letting the ball drop on my face when I was spiking; the lighting was to my disadvantage at that angle. It was not the end of my terror as my spectacle fell off twice later.

We ended the game early at nine again and none of us was in the mood for dinner. I went straight home and it was quite an early night for me, without having dinner as well.

Spambot is Back from USA

Spambot aka Yaozhong was back to Singapore finally for his three months vacation. Our ex Ngee Ann Polytechnic gang, Cher Fong, Benson, Wen Chang and both of us met up on Wednesday for dinner.

Since I left my work place later than planned time, and partly due to my slackness, I was very late for the meet-up. It was not that bad at first until I boarded bus 75 and there was massive jam at Shenton Way. Then, I realised the bus did not stop near Esplanade, and instead, I had to further spend time crossing Marina Square. I met my secretary, Lynn, on the way but she was going for karaoke session and thus could not join us.

Back to the Sushi restaurant (Ichiban Boshi) for the third time, my first instinct was to find the waitress who looked like Felicia Chin. She was not as resembling this time but was still quite stylish, except when she opened her mouth…

There was no change in everyone except for Cher Fong who kept his hair very long. I missed the previous class gathering and thus, the rest of them were not surprised by his hairstyle.

Cher Fong’s bike. Cool?

I had chicken katsu and a bowl of rice, which was the simplest. We chatted for quite long and by the time we were about to leave, I felt uncomfortable with my throat. It was near ten o’clock and we followed Cher Fong to the car park where he parked his bike before going to the MRT station.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic is So Vague

Monday was the beginning of the school holidays even though we all needed to go back to work. To everyone, we seemed to be very free but many works were actually pending; it depended on how committed one could be in order to gauge the workload. It was difficult to wipe off all the threatening sights of jealousy.

Mingli trying to drag him to go down to Ngee Ann Polytechnic to have lunch with us.

Mingli and Yicheng’s scandal.

We went for lunch at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and it was the largest group of us ever. Weitat, Jingkun and Kevin alighted outside SIM because Weitat wanted to submit a letter to withdraw from the course he had applied. Yicheng, Dessy, Mingli and I went straight to Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

I was stunned upon alighting from the bus due to the changes at the gate. I passed by there a couple of times at night and I did not realise the school had already built a path in the middle of the old field where rugby training used to be conducted at; a street soccer court took over.

Same place

Mingli announced that she was meeting her lecturer for lunch and abandoned us. We took some seats at the canteen one before I suggested taking a walk around instead of waiting there. We started off by going to the “Our Space @ 72”, which was a very cosy place for group discussion or even just idling around. Next, we went to the ICT block, passing by the Convention Hall and finally made our way back through the underpass near canteen one where there were tables for students to enjoy. The entire place seemed so much better for students to study, which invoked jealousy.

Chicken chop at canteen 1. The feeling of the “bite” was not really good.

Western food was sold at $3.20 instead of $2.80. The chicken chop did not impress me. We were entertained by the screaming and cheering of students who I supposed were attending orientation camp. Kevin left earlier since he needed to buy food back for Seetoh; whereas the rest of us made our moves soon after, but ended up being cooked under the warm sun under the bus-stop’s shelter, waiting for bus 52 to crawl over.

Wee Wee Weiwen is an Adult

I was supposed to go to the beach on Sunday after missing from action for so many months, but I remembered promising Weiwen to attend his wedding dinner. My gang called off the plan somehow as well, probably because Weitat was in need of a new laptop and he was captivated by the IT fair at Suntec City.

Fook Min came over to fetch my brother and I but there was a change of plan and thus, we waited quite long by the road side. We went over to fetch Hubert at Henderson Road before speeding off towards Hilltop Garden Restaurant, Club CSC @ Bukit Batok (91 Bukit Batok West Avenue 2, Singapore 659206).

I was impressed by the place, especially at the swimming pool view where families gathered to enjoy the man-made paradise. The beautiful place reminded me of Jurong East Swimming Complex, though was not as well designed, but kept memories of friends and laughers.

The pools areas seemed very happening…

Corridor of the dining hall

We were pretty lost in the early evening. Waiters and waitresses were preparing the tables, and we saw many young kids among the crews. All the unseen preparation work created a horror impact on me and I would never dream of being the central of attention in such occasion with such big hassle. In fact, it would never be my turn as I’m too weird and lousy a guy for any romance, and that I do not even have any career.

The stage

Meeting up with familiar but distant faces was a satisfaction. I even saw Wendy and Loraine and began chatting with them; and afterwards, I met Weirong before realising I was keeping his very outdated number. I did not know anyone within the table except for the two ladies, and thus, I felt very uncomfortable throughout the night.

The guests were very late and the dinner started at mid eight plus; this ugly Singaporeans’ bad habit disgusted me. I supposed the lonely lift and the cramp car park path did not cause the problem but the very stubborn wrong mindset of Singaporeans who thought wedding dinner ought to start much later than the stated time.

I had a cup of brandy given by Reuben, which was the second time I drank this year, and guilt strike me badly. He tossed me and I emptied the entire cup into my stomach, and soon, my face was blushing.

Bernard and Weiwen

Time to merlion soon

Everything seemed to go smoothly. The dinner ended before eleven and all guests started to disperse in the midst of my daydream. The bridegroom was then pressed by his “brothers”, including my elder brother, to drown himself in alcohol. The battle lasted for some time and they went to the toilet one by one.

My brother and I boarded Fook Min’s car, whereas Hubert accompanied the new family. Fook Min proved me the F1 race could really be conducted in Singapore at night and it was a great experience. My brother started to throw up upon reaching the car park while we waited for the bridegroom’s car to arrive to join in the party.

Fook Min dropped us downstairs our house where my brother continued partying while releasing the stinks.

It was already after one in the morning and I had missed my favourite “少年杨家将” show for the good sake.

Secondhand Serenade – Fall for You

Irwin’s recommendation…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_JDeA8uTVU
The best thing about tonight’s that we’re not fighting
Could it be that we have been this way before
I know you don’t think that I am trying
I know you’re wearing thin down to the core
But hold your breathe
Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you
Over again
Don’t make me change my mind
Or I wont live to see another day
I swear it’s true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
Your impossible to find
This is not what I intended
I always swore to you i’d never fall apart
You always thought that I was stronger
I may of failed
But I have loved you from the start
Ohhhh
But hold your breathe
Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you
Over again
Don’t make me change my mind
Or I wont live to see another day
I swear it’s true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
It’s impossible
So breathe in so deep
Breathe me in
I’m yours to keep
And hold onto your words
Cuz talk is cheap
And remember me tonight
When your asleep
Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you
Over again
Don’t make me change my mind
Or I wont live to see another day
I swear it’s true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
Tonight will be the night that I will fall for you
Over again
Don’t make me change my mind
Or I wont live to see another day
I swear it’s true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
Your impossible to find

Qinxin's Birthday Barbecue at West Coast Park

My girlfriend and I at Clementi

Last Friday, Mingli, Yicheng and I met up with Mingfa after work. We went to the Clementi Recreational Centre and both Mingli and I almost dozed off while watching the two guys playing billiard. We were supposed to play pool after the game but we went over to the bowling alley instead and then, decided to just give it a skip.

After drawing money at the ATM machine near the interchange, we waited very long for bus 175 to send us over to West Coast Park. It was my second lunch at the MacDonald’s even though we only intended to take some snacks at first. We walked over towards the left, facing the sea and reached the boring part of the park.

It was all for Mingfa’s student’s birthday barbecue. Mingfa started the fire together with Yicheng, whereas Mingli started to marinate the chicken wings. I was not helpful since I wanted to take photos and did not want to dirty my hands. Anyway, it was not very well planned with missing items and having Mingli to do the dirty job was obvious enough.

As the hostess’ friends arrived, we were pretty irritated by the guys sitting by the side not doing anything. It was near seven when we took our leave and left them to survive on their own.

I crossed the road to take bus 176 towards Henderson Road, where I crossed the overhead bridge to wait for bus 145. The bus’ engine died off whenever the driver stepped on the accelerator and I heard a couple times of the engine restart while another bus 145 passed by, telling me I should have stayed behind to indulge on the scenery instead; or rather, I regretted not alighting further down the road earlier so that I could climb up to the Henderson Waves instead. Anyway, the bus struggled and survived a few scary moments before the engine stopped the joke.

Knowing the Limits

I had a second volleyball session this week on Thursday. I ended my class late and when I got back to the office, all my team-mates were already gone. I had the urge to do some work first but time did not permit me to.

However, after reaching the hall to meet up with the rest, I walked towards the inclined-flex-arm-hang bar by the side and lay on the mat below it. I had a short deep sleep before Mingfa came over to get me up for the game. I quickly bandaged my index finger and stood inside the court with my sleepy head.

It started off well, at least I was able to stay awake and focus. I did much better than the previous months and I could have called for a celebration if only the night was completely silent.

I began to regret over some decisions. I would never want to remain in places where things would only turn sourer and having to endure fake smiles daily. The love showered by all the good people and buddies around could never shield backstabbing completely.

Excess jokes can be so damaging.

Every human being, regardless of your friend, passer-by or even your enemy can be your mirror. For every mistake which you have not committed, you still have to take it as a lesson learnt and remember by heart, and never let it happen to yourself.

I’m glad and proud of myself that I have never caused any dispute between my friends even though I’m cracking jokes and nonsense most of the time; because I bother to reflect before spouting sensitive words, or rather, I know the limits.

Shopping with Weitat

Wednesday was an unusual day which I was out the entire evening with Weitat to shop for his clothes. He drove to school as his dad was not using the car and sent Mingli and Jingkun home after work. He was supposed to meet up his friend at Marina Square and since my mum was not cooking, I joined him.

He was pretty quick at his pace and we did not waste much time during the shopping trip, which was why he preferred shopping alone. It was a good opportunity for me to get updated with the current trend since I would rarely do any shopping by myself.

We headed towards Wisma after that, stopping at the car park opposite Cineleisure before walking over. Eventually we had our dinner at Takashimaya’s MacDonald’s, where I enjoyed a MacSpicy chicken meal probably for the first time this year. We made a final trip back to Marina Square towards the Topshop before we yielded to the night.

It was all thanks to the car that had made travelling much faster and convenience. Weitat did his confession about his laziness and dependency on the car, and I had to admit that I was at times tempted by the easing of legs muscles.

Our difference was that I was brought up in a less fortunate family that I was more determined to take cheap public transport, and needless to say, had no second choice.

Singapore Mint Trip

I made my first visit to the Singapore Mint on Wednesday afternoon. It was a good opportunity given by Hasnah, Wee Lian, Kelvin and Faris. I supposed Chi Chiang had enjoyed the ultimate short trip like me together with the noisy kids.

Luminous coins

We were welcomed by two of the staffs, Eugeue and Melissa and the lady was quite cute. I was expecting to see very detailed stuffs but disappointments satisfied me instead. The tour was roughly around fifty metres long and the exhibition was mainly about the old and special versions of Singapore’s coins.

Waiting to board the bus

We spent some time idling around because we realised the bus was already waiting for us.
