Visits of Vivi and Kachua

[Wednesday, 04 October, 2006]

Since the day before being woke up by Rueben Ow at around noon when I slept near daylight, I was lack of sleep. As I continued to work throughout the night again, the sleep debt was even more.

Vivi called me in the morning and I cancelled the call as usual and then wanted to use my house’s phone to call her back. Since my mum was sleeping at the outer side of the bed and my leg was so inconvenient, I dozed off.

She called my house’s number then and I woke up feeling so irritated that my sleep was interrupted by a phone call. I heard her voice and then she told me to go and open the door.

It was another surprised sweet visit from her; I could have guessed it if I was not so weary. I had never expected her to drop by to accompany me because she was having exams and that she had started to revise since nearly a month ago.

Since I could not send her home like usual, as she told me she was going to take a cab, I gave her another ten bucks again. It was my responsibility to send her home after all and that was the best I could do at the moment.

The amount of money might be considered small to some people but for a jobless guy, having more medical appointments at the hospital and an upcoming birthday chalet to handle, it was strenuous.

This was one of the most stressful eras of my life. I had to account to myself for my future, to get income to move on with my life, and also to worry for a young girlfriend who was supposed to be immature in her age. I could not clarify my doubts and discuss any displease with her during this period of time when she needed full concentration for her exams; just any simple issue would probably circulate around in her mind throughout the night when she was supposed to sleep.

This afternoon, I finally expressed my wish for her to be more matured again. In fact, I was not really sure the definition of mature, but at least I knew I need someone who would not stress me.

At night, Kachua did his overtime job and dropped by my house. He was the second friend other than Kaelyn who did that. His main intention was to give me a name card, which one of his clients gave him, asking for a programmer for a website; there was not much detail. I supposed it was a database job which I still had problems with since they already had a web designer.

We had some chats and he left within an hour.

Deletion of Friendster testimonials

[Wednesday, 04 October, 2006]
I deleted some of my Friendster testimonials which were totally irrelevant to description of me; all the “Happy Birthday” and “Merry Christmas” were unfortunately not spared.
A sudden thought of going through them made me realise the existence. I did not reject them immediately as to show respect and friendliness to my friends but had forgotten to delete them.
I hesitated for a while but soon took the first step to click the delete link one by one. I hoped my friends would not mind me.
So, my initiate of over hundred testimonials are reduced to eighty-two now. Please pity me and show me some appreciation, regardless of my flaws, pen down truths about me.

Never say forever

An issue has been circulating my mind for years for as long as I know how to love the opposite sex.

When we are young, the feeling may not be very certain; we cannot differential between puppy love and true love; I am never a saint and I can never exceed what human beings can never attain as well.

But I know well love is almost never possible to last when it is one sided; be it one month, one year or one decade, you will eventually realise the cruelty of life and meanwhile, meet someone better.

I have been hurt numerous times and although each time I was so terribly upset, I knew well I would not like the girl forever; at least I was able to face the reality of life and thus able to get over it faster than others.

Why would one want to persist in a relationship which the other party has hurt he or she so badly? Do you know how badly it will affect you in health and other issues? People who tend to be more devoted and stubborn will eventually get hurt more; but they do not realise they cannot retrieve their health, smiles and loss of time.

There are too many movies and love storybooks which have impacted a lot on youngsters. How many pairs of Romeo and Juliet are there on earth? True love does exist, but it takes both hands to clap.

I have a few female friends who have committed this mistake. I watch by the side as they refuse to listen to my advice that they will eventually find better and more worthy partners, until this day I wonder will they ever recall and think they are silly when they have found their new love.

Make no empty promise; you can promise to try to love a person forever, but not claim that you can love him or her forever.

I sincerely pray hard for those whose loves are not appreciated, to soon get over it and find true meaning in life.

Updates of Leg Condition

As my mum helped me to redress the wound before she went to sleep, there was still discharge as usually at the lower part of the wound and it was dried again. I intended not to dress the wound anymore to save money and also to air it, however my mum was afraid I might scratch the wound in my sleep.

There is less pain in the past three nights and thus I can doze off easier. Another good thing is that the swell has dispersed. The inner of the calf still hurts when I press the calf, which I hope it will be over soon.

My attempts to walk properly still fail. At least for now, my right foot can move forward and exceeds the left foot (operated leg) by around three centimetres. I believe as the tissues recover, I can bend my ankle more and walking will be easier.

Banning of online gaming in U.S

“Online gaming in crisis over U.S. ban” – This is the latest news I get from the internet.

For whoever is reading this post, I assume this will affect you in one or another way, because you are an internet user.

How often have you seen popup poker or casino advertisement when you are surfing the net? Some free software is also mounted with spy-ware which will invest your windows and slow the system down.

With the ban of online gaming over U.S, it will greatly reduce the needs of advertising for the money-seeking companies. The redundant of the advertising will reduce the availability of the popup advertisements and spy-wares.

In my next assumption, with no survey or research done, online gambling is one of the biggest advertisement-paying industries other than porn. It may then affect many revenue seekers who provide free services and also the industries’ affiliates.

However, since most decent and well established websites do not use online gaming advertisement, the impact may not be big.

A complaint letter

[Wednesday, 27 September, 2006]

Gilbert had rectified my language and contents of a letter written in rage; it had somehow demoralised me but definitely made me realise how incompetent I was. He prompted me with many questions and left the final editing to me.

In the end, I did not send it to the officials that I wished to complain to; I was quite lost.

The original letter:

I am writing this email to express a big displease and shame on the service of your hospital.

Last Wednesday, I had an operation done by Doctor Mathew George Sebastian from Clinic “C” and the description of the surgical procedures was “Excision of Left Lateral Gastrocnemius Haemangioma”.

My calf and foot on the operated leg are still swelling after a week and there are blood cots on both sides of the foot just above the heel, which are around four by two centimetres big. Another concern is the discharge on the lowest portion of the wound.

As I had an appointment with the Neuro-Surgery department at Clinic “E” today, after waiting for more than an hour as usual, I mentioned about the urgent problems to the doctor at room “6”. He told me to go to Clinic “C” and insist for a check-up immediately because the discharge might cause an infection.

My mum and I got very concern and we went to the treatment room (room 10) at Clinic “C” as instructed at around 1230h. The nurse inside, however, told us that Doctor Mathew was doing an operation at the moment. I requested for just any doctor or medical staff to inspect on my wound but this nurse claimed that only Doctor Mathew knew about my problems. She offered me to push my next appointment forward from two weeks later (091006) to next Monday (021006) or Tuesday (031006) but I declined.

I am sure you, a worthy and dedicated staff of the hospital, or even just a normal non-medical trained person would see the problems.

I wish to clarify my doubts.

1. Will the hospital bear full responsible if my wound gets infected or worsens?
2. Is your well-reputation hospital training staffs to say no to patient instead of finding a better solution?
3. Is the documentation done properly enough each time to maintain details of my problems/injuries so that other doctors can see to my problems?
4. Are all doctors in your hospital, other than Doctor Mathew, trained to treat problems with swelling, blood cots and discharge of wounds?
5. If Doctor Mathew leaves the working force of the hospital one day unfortunately, do I have to forsake my wound?

On my personal view, your staffs are pushing away responsibility. As Singapore is trying to promote our excellent medical treatment in Asia, this will act as opposition to the proposal.

Hereby, I wish to seek an explanation to my questions and hope that my future experience with your hospital will be better when your staffs are more enthusiastic.

The finalised letter:

Re: Dissatisfaction with SGH’s services and seeking resolution to my medical condition

Last Wednesday (200906), I had an operation done by Doctor Mathew George Sebastian from Clinic “C” and the description of the surgical procedures was “Excision of Left Lateral Gastrocnemius Haemangioma”.

My calf and foot on the operated leg are still swelling after a week and there are blood cots on both sides of the foot just above the heel, which are around four by two centimetres big. Another concern is the discharge on the lowest portion of the wound.

I had an appointment with the Neuro-Surgery department at Clinic “E” today, which concerned a separated health issue. I went into room “6” after waiting for more than an hour. The doctor knew about my recent operation and I took the chance to explain my worries about the development of my condition regarding the operation. He told me I had the right to go to Clinic “C” immediately and insist Doctor Mathew to do a check-up because the discharge might cause an infection.

Afterwards I went to the treatment room “10” at Clinic “C” as instructed at around 1230h. The nurse inside, however, told us that Doctor Mathew was doing an operation at the moment. I requested for any doctor or medical staff who could inspect my wound but the nurse claimed that only Doctor Mathew knew about my problems; even so I was sure any doctor currently on duty could easily inspect my wound, which would not take up much of their time. Instead, she offered to push my next appointment forward from two weeks later (091006) to next Monday (021006) or Tuesday (031006) but I declined as I needed at least an explanation to check on the seriousness of my condition and if it required immediate medical attention. I refused to leave at first and showed her my operated leg but she claimed that there was no dark area around the bandage and thus there should be no infection; she did not remove the bandage. She suggested me to go to a polyclinic or directly to the A&E department if I was worried, which I thought was very unprofessional to push me away. I was very disappointed and left the hospital.

I wish to clarify my doubts.

1. Will the hospital bear full responsibility if my wound gets infected or worsened since it is not treated on the spot?
2. Are my medical records ready and available so that other doctors could have seen to my problems?
3. Are there any other doctors in your hospital, other than Doctor Mathew, trained to treat problems with swelling, blood cots and discharge of wounds after operation?

From my point of view, your staffs were pushing away responsibility or perhaps they were not trained to provide simple immediate resolutions. As Singapore is trying to promote our excellent medical services in Asia, the service rendered to me seemed to be compromising the hospital’s reputation.

Hereby, I wish to seek an explanation to my problems and resolutions to my medical condition mentioned above. I hope that my future experience with your hospital will be a better one and would appreciate if u could contact me as soon as possible.

New Blogger Beta

http://beta.blogger.com

As some of you have noticed of the new Blogger Beta, I have watching over it for some time. My operation has somehow delayed my intention to switch over to it and finally I have done it on Friday, 29 September, 2006.

After some navigation and testing of the configuration, I notice some updates and new features over the older version which most people are still using.

– Faster loading speed
– Labels function
– Layouts (upgraded templates)
– Number of comments shown in edit posts page
– Able to view all entries (previously only 300)
– No need to republish after editing template

– Faster loading speed
It is much faster to navigate around the site

– Labels function
The implementation of labels to group your entries accordingly to the subject you want. This is a good way for visitors to view their designated contents. This is what I have been wishing Blogger to implement since years ago and the main reason for me to switch over from the older version.

– Layouts (upgraded templates)
These cool layouts are upgraded templates, which are more interactive, but however, using the same designs as the older ones; some of the designs are really cool anyway. The layouts include bullets to open Archives, which are very useful to keep the list short if you have a very long history of blogging. I fancy this feature a lot but it involves more programming.

– Number of comments shown in edit posts page
This feature can help you keep track of the comments; if you see a “1 comment” indication there, you will know probably you have not replied to that particular post.

– Able to view all entries (previously only 300)
In the older version, you can only view the latest 300 entries in the editing page; if you wish to edit an earlier entry, you can only use the search box provided to search for words that particular entry contains. In this Beta version, you are able to navigate to the earlier list of entries.

– No need to republish after editing template
This is another good point that has reduced the time wastage. I bet they have changed their programming style that has eliminated the earlier “Publish” dirty job each time after you edit your template.

Booked a Birthday Chalet

[Saturday, 30 September, 2006]

On the night before, I finally received Ouxiang’s letter which contained the Special package for holidays resort, given by SingTel.

“Costa Sands – 2 Days 1 Night resort stay at Costa Sands Resort with 2 complimentary Wild Wild Wet tickets at S$60”

After waking up, I started to message Wilson and Kailin to see if they could drive me over to Pasir Ris to book the resort; however, they were not free.

I made a call to the Pasir Ris resort and the very friendly middle-aged lady told me it was cheaper to just use my mum’s NTUC membership card, which would cost me $210 for three days two nights.

Whereas with the promotion package ($60), I had to foot extra $50 (weekends) for the first night and another $105 for the second night, which was $215 in total, except that I would get two Wild Wild Wet tickets which I most probably would not be using.

The price for Costa Sands Downtown East resort was $178, $32 cheaper than the Pasir Ris one, but there were some restrictions. I believed my friends would have to foot more than $32 in total for the $1 ticket (CRAP) each to enter the Downtown East resort. Whereas, I heard the Downtown East chalet was smaller and the barbecue pit was further away; the chalet might be on the second storey as well.

I owed the booking to my elder brother again with his VISA card.

Paying was straightforward but the confirmation from friends was a headache. If only all of them were spontaneous, I would not have so many problems.

Firstly, I would have to ask my current closest groups of friends first whether they could stay overnight, and I supposed were my volleyball friends and NS friends. Since more of my BMCC friends are currently working or having weird NS working days, I would begin with them together with my GESS team-mates and juniors since they were kind of interlinked.

Then, I had to get Vivi to invite some of her Tzu Chi friends to accompany her. Next would be all the other groups of friends like my ex classmates, team-mates and platoon-mates, and since the chalet was not big, I could only invite them over for the barbecue on the second night, which was also my birthday.

For those individuals, I would have to decide if I should invite them there because I would not have the time to entertain them individually. I hoped no friend would feel neglected.

Just as I recalled I had not been using my 1000 free SMSes at the last day of the month, I quickly mass messaged some of my volleyball friends before midnight. Since it was still early and almost a month to go, I could not expect everyone to answer me yet, but at least I made sure they got to know about the chalet so that they could update their schedule earlier.

After all these, food would be another big problem.
